Liberation of Undermine boss Rik Reverb is soloable… with two hours, a specific trinket, and lots of determination

Everyone’s favorite wacky Paladin Rextroy is back and at it again with another installment of creatively using mechanics. Known for his ridiculous videos where he one-shots things for even more insane amounts of damage, he’s gone and one-upped himself this time by taking an item level 606 Death Knight in green auction house gear into Liberation of Undermine to solo everyone’s favorite goblin DJ, Rik Reverb.
“But Chris,” I hear you asking, “how the heck did he pull that off?” Well, disembodied voice in my head, let me explain how he pulled off his latest caper.
Last tier, in Nerub-ar Palace, there was a trinket that dropped off Ulgrax called Foul Behemoth’s Chelicera. This trinket, when used, hits an enemy with a poison venom that causes all attacks during the 20 second window to heal the user — but that’s not the important part — instead, the secondary effect of the trinket is the key: all healing caused by this trinket gets added to the user’s health pool. While this wasn’t as abuse-able previously, this effect has been well documented (see the WoWhead comments) but mobs typically don’t survive long enough for there to be any real use from this trinket.
Until now, that is. Rextroy went into Liberation of Undermine and headed over to the trash pulls before Sprocketmonger Lockenstock where the perfect miniboss stands: Globikus, a slime being that casts a self-heal on itself. Along with some help over the next four hours, Rextroy managed to build up his health pool with overheals until he was sitting at just shy of 300 million HP, and then dragged Globikus with him to go to Rik’s dance party.
Why Rik? Outside of being one of the best raid bosses an early raid boss that would be easy to reach, he’s also one of the few raid bosses that doesn’t have a stacking tank debuff that would ruin four hours of prep time. Rextroy managed to map out that during Rik’s berserk window, he’d do about 70 million damage per Blaring Drop; however, one thing he didn’t realize before he started the attempt was that Rik will melee in between Drops, which causes a stacking tank debuff.
Thankfully, with a little kiting and some razor’s edge timing, he managed to get the tank debuff to drop off about half a second before it got reapplied again, scoring him a victory after two hours. I can only imagine how butt clenching the final 2% of the kill must have been, knowing that if he managed to make a single mistake it meant six hours of work down the drain.
So let us at Blizzard Watch congratulate Rextroy for another insane victory! If you want to see more of his recent exploits, take a look at how he managed to one-shot the Underpin.
