This week’s free Epic Games Store game is River City Girls, a fun little nostalgia-filled brawler.

River City Girls is an old-school brawler that reminds me very much of games we used to play on NES back in the 80s and 90s, but with anime girlypop flair. You fight from stage to stage in service of a relatively flimsy plot — though to give it credit, it’s more fleshed out than Street Fighter, which was basically “idk, fighting in the street.” You, and optionally a friend, fight your way through River City trying to free your boyfriends. When you get sick of bailing them out, you can also fight each other head-to-head like other brawlers.

This week the Epic Games Store is also offering two additional perks for games which are already free-to-play. One is frequent freebie flier Idle Champions of the Forgotten Realms, a D&D-themed idle game, which has a bundle that includes several Champions and usually pricey loot chests for free. This week you can also get a bundle of 5,000 free microtransaction currency for Arcadegeddon.
