How to unlock every boss power for your build in Diablo 4 Season 8

Diablo 4 Season 8 is all about Belial’s Return, but the Lord of Lies is not about that head-on fight experience. No, to combat his deceptions we have to wield our own, harnessing illusory magics to “command the very powers your foes once manipulated.” Yes, dear Wanderer, it’s time to take down every boss in Sanctuary to use their own powers against them in a classic Diablo way — by killing demons.
Here’s how to earn every Boss Power in Diablo 4 Season 8.
How to unlock Boss Powers for leveling in Diablo 4 Season 8
Each of the 24 boss powers is unlocked pretty directly, by killing the specific boss. Yes, it’s that easy! Your first kill of any boss — Ashava, Grigoire, Belial, even Lilith — will reward you with their specific power. However, some of these bosses will not be accessible while you’re leveling as they’re gated by difficulty: some of them require you to be level 60, with decent gear and paragon, in order to unlock.
But while you’re leveling, you can collect 24 different boss powers. You’ll focus on two groups available from the onset to assemble your power combos:
- World Bosses (rotating randomly at one of six fixed locations)
- Apparitions from Apparition Incursion Events.
World Bosses are a pool of three, so it should only take a few rounds to knock out these bosses for their powers. However, no Apparition Incursion has a “set” final Apparition that will spawn; you will need to keep running the event until you obtain whichever of the powers you’re looking for to accentuate your build.
Here are the bosses that drop each Magic Boss Power:
- Kill World Bosses for:
- Ashava’s Poison Breath
- Avarice’s Explosive Ore
- Wandering Death’s Chest Beam
- Kill Apparitions for:
- Allek’s Talons
- Beastmaster’s Training
- Blackmailer’s Sabotage
- Flesh Reaper’s Disruption
- Hatred’s Embrace’s Haste
- Kirma’s Sparks
- Outlaw Sharpshooter’s Eye
- Sinerat’s Flames
- Skerg’s Toxins
- Torusk’s Rage
How to unlock endgame Boss Powers in Diablo 4 Season 8
On the flip side, Lair Bosses (previously known as ladder bosses) are only available starting in Torment 1 — i.e. only after leveling to 60. These are your endgame powers, the ones that have some extra oomph to them or really tie your build together. But earning them comes at the cost of difficulty.
Luckily, following the boss ladder rework, you will not need to have materials to summon these bosses, just to open their loot chests, which is unnecessary to collect the power. The bosses themselves are broken out now into three difficulties: Initiate, Greater, and Exalted. Scale your way up as you gain power, and you’ll be sure to collect everything.
- Kill Initiate Lair Bosses for Rare Boss Powers:
- Beast in the Ice’s Sleet (located at the Glacial Fissure in Fractured Peaks)
- Grigoire’s Lightning Square (located at the Hall of the Penitent in Dry Steppes)
- Lord Zir’s Blood Pool (located at The Darkened Way in Fractured Peaks)
- Varshan’s Life Steal (located at the Malignant Burrow at the Tree of Whispers in Hawezar)
- Urivar’s Lobbed Bombs (located at the Fields of Judgement in Nahantu for Vessel of Hatred Players)
- Kill Greater Lair Bosses for Legendary Boss Powers:
- Duriel’s Burrow (located at the Gaping Crevasse in Kehjistan)
- Andariel’s Flaming Skull (located at the Hanged Man’s Hall in Kehjistan)
- Harbinger of Hatred’s Volley (located at the Harbinger’s Den in Nahantu for Vessel of Hatred Players)
- Kill Exalted Lair Bosses for Legendary Boss Power:
- Belial, Lord of Lies’ Eye Beams (located at Belial’s Lair in Kehjistan)
The last two powers are unique cases:
- Belial’s Crystal Decoy, a Rare Boss Power earned from killing a mini version of Belial who has chance to spawn in any Lair Boss encounter as an ambush after you’ve defeated the normal boss.
- The Blessed Mother Herself — as the original endgame boss, Lilith remains separate from the boss ladder system. Kill the Echo of Lilith grants the Legendary Boss Power Wind of Hate after defeating her encounter in the Fractured Peaks.
How to equip and level up Boss Powers
The Boss Powers tab on your character sheet is an incredibly familiar system for anyone who played past seasons like the Season of Blood or Season of Witchcraft. Equipping your Boss Powers is easy, if a bit gory (pretty on theme for Diablo). Select your earned power of choice and drag it to the large (Main power) eyeball or the small (Modifier power) eyeballs.
Leveling up your powers is equally familiar, and leveling will scale your powers as you progress through leveling and endgame. Farm the upgrade currency, Spectral Ash, from Apparition Incursions and Lair Bosses. Apply that to your selected powers to level them from Ranks 1 to 20 (yes, even the Legendary ones).
The Boss Powers theme is definitely one of the easier ones to get started. It has some incredible flexibility Now go kill some demons and steal there skills. See you in Sanctuary!
