July could be your lucky legacy mount month with the Collector’s Bounty buff

If you’re like me and run old World of Warcraft instances on repeat in order to collect things like unique mounts, legendary weapons, and every single transmog piece ever, then the upcoming Greedy Emissary event has a bonus feature that you’ll want to take advantage of. From July 1 – 29, the drop rates for a very large number of highly desired legacy items is being increased by a huge amount — up to ten times, and in one as-yet-unkown case, 25 times.
Which particular category of item should make the headline is a matter of opinion, but an increased drop rate for all pre-Dragonflight dungeon and raid mounts is hard to beat. While those all-time most wanted rides like Invincible or Ashes of Al’ar won’t become guaranteed drops, having your odds increased by up to a factor of ten for each run is certain to make anyone happy.
If you’re still working on those Feat of Strength achievements for acquiring legendary weapons from Azeroth’s past, the buff will also boost the drop rate of Thori’dal, The Stars’ Fury, the Warglaives of Azzinoth, and the items required to create Thunderfury and Sulfuras. Don’t forget that you should aim to acquire these powerful items with a class that can equip them in order to trigger the achievement.
But increasing the drop rate up to ten times isn’t necessarily much. Blizzard’s promotional video on the event promises a +5% drop rate for mounts and +5% for “select items” (like materials for legendary weapons). That’s a significant boost to ultra-rare mount drops like Mimiron’s Head and Invincible, which have drop rates of less than 1%, but these rare items still won’t be common. So while there’s a much better chance of collecting these mounts, it’s still not a guarantee.
If mounts and legendaries aren’t your thing unless you’ve got the perfect outfit to complement them, then great news for you: the chance for transmog loot drops is going to be doubled in all pre-Dragonflight raids and dungeons. Your bags will be stuffed with twice as much wearable loot from each boss, and with the recent lifting of restrictions on collecting transmog appearances by armor type, it’s the perfect time to complete that tier set you’ve always wanted or finally pick up the perfect weapon to match your favorite raiding outfit.
Pets and toys are specifically called out as being excluded from this month-long loot party. A noted exception to this exception is the Golden Hearthstone Card: Lord Jaraxxus toy, which allows you to take on the appearance of the famous Eredar and heckle all of the Gnomes within shouting range.
Running old content for rare drops is always on my to-do list, but for the month of July it will certainly creep up on the priority table. Which collectibe that has been always just out of your reach will you be aiming to finally obtain during the event?
