Summer Games Done Quick 2025 starts this weekend to save you from boredom and sadness — here are the must-see runs from each day

Summer Games Done Quick is back! The mega-speedrunning event kicked off on Sunday, July 6 and continues nonstop through the week, ending in the early hours of the morning on Sunday, July 13. You’ll be able to watch the entire show live on Twitch, or catch events later on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel (so even those late night blocks aren’t out of reach).

We’re huge fans of GDQ, and as has become tradition, we’re here to bring you a (small) selection of runs that are sure to showcase what makes it all so special. As always, we highly encourage you to give the full schedule your own view, though, since the list below only scratches the surface of what happens at SGDQ.

Runs below are listed in eastern time, but it’s important to note that times will change regularly as each run finishes! Be sure to check the Games Done Quick website for all the latest updates to the schedule. Games Done Quick’s schedule page will reflect your local time and is updated dynamically.

Sunday, July 6

Banjo-Kazooie — Any% Console Choice by TSR Stormed (3:21 p.m.)

Banjo-Kazooie was one of my surprise mentions during my GOTY 2024 (that didn’t come out in 2024) pick, and I’m always happy when the event opens with a childhood classic. The fact that this one has a console choice from the get-go has my attention and curiosity piqued, and I’m very interested to hear how the choice will affect the overall run!

Special shout-outs: Beat Saber Expert+ Game Songs Showcase by Kungfufruitcup (8:28 p.m.) and Sekiro All Bosses Glitchless by Mitchriz (9:36 p.m.)

Monday, July 7

Blue Prince — B Quest Bingo by BobbyBurm and RadRingtail (11:29 p.m.)

If you’ve been paying any attention to us here at Blizzard Watch the past few months, you’ll know that Blue Prince has been a massive fixation for many of us. I’d specifically avoided speedruns of the game until I’d progressed far enough myself, but I think that changes on Monday.

Especially because I must know what all the Bs (“beads?”) are about.

Special shout-outs: RollerCoaster Tycoon Loopy Landscapes FF% by Dynomation (10:09 a.m.) and Mega Man Maker Kaizo Showcase by mfp (6:40 p.m.)

Tuesday, July 8

The Horror Block, beginning with BioShock — Any% by Gulch2 (10:56 p.m.)

Boy howdy, do I love horror games. But you know what’s great about speedrunning? Even if you don’t normally like horror, a speedrun can turn the most terrifying game into the silliest experience ever.

Such is usually the case with many games in the Horror Block, and there’s always been something pleasing about staying up through the night to play spoOoOoO00o0ky video games.

Wednesday, July 9

Pokémon Sword/Shield — Eeveelution Trade Alt Main Showdown by Corvimae and GretaIceVixen (12:32 p.m.)

At an estimated 4 hours and 15 minutes, this might be one of the longer runs, but a Pokémon run with any level of Corvimae — especially one with a category name like this — is going to be chaotic in the absolute best ways possible.

Pokémon games have a tendency to bring about some of the best GDQ memes, and there’s a good chance something chat is cheering on Saturday will start right here during this run.

Thursday, July 10

The Silly Block, beginning with An  Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs — Any% by pmcTRILOGY (2:19 a.m.)

If the Horror Block is still not something you feel like staying up late to check out, then maybe the Silly Block will be the one that changes that. Every game in this block is, as you might expect, quite silly. I mean, just look at the name of this very first run. How could that not be hilarious hijinks waiting to happen?

Whether you like staying up late or just happen to wake up in the middle of the night, the Silly Block will be a fever dream of an experience you won’t regret having.

Friday, July 11

Super Mario Maker 2 — Relay Race by Team Perfect Pixels and Team Fast Frames (5:04 p.m.)

Whenever there’s a Mario Maker relay race at one of these, I always have to recommend tuning in. Even if you know almost nothing about Mario Maker, the commentators do a great job of explaining incredibly complex setups and tricks, and it’s an unforgettable watch every time.

Bloodborne — Any% Glitchless by blanxz (9:28 p.m.)

I’m cheating here a little (spoiler: I’ll cheat more in just a second) but Friday gets two picks, because how could I ever not pick Bloodborne for one of these? I’m excited to revisit Yarnham and likely learn some new speedrunning tricks along the way.

Saturday, July 12

Everything. But especially the finale.

Yeah, yeah. I do this every time, and I refuse to stop. The final day is always packed with so many good runs back-to-back-to-back that I can never just pick one.

The best I can say is that, if you have to pick a time to tune in on Saturday, why not start with Celeste at 4:04 p.m.? After an All Hearts Race by Lmjacks and yujene, we backwards long-jump with beeve into Super Mario 64 — a game close to my heart and regular top pick around here — then speed into the all-new Mario Kart World with Peas for a Knockout Tours run, before finally closing the whole event with a Deltarune Ch. 1+2 All Bosses Glitchless run by Shayy.

The schedule is packed in the best way possible, and there should be a run (and many wholesome moments) for any current and future speedrunning fans.

To watch any of these runs, just tune into SGDQ on Twitch at the appropriate time (check the schedule for updates as the week progresses!), or catch events after the fact on GDQ’s YouTube channel. We’ll be sure to link VODs of each run as its available, but there’s a lot more to see than we’ve mentioned here — so if you enjoy these speed runs, head to Twitch or YouTube to watch more!
