With the Collector’s Bounty buff in full swing, which unicorn are you trying to acquire?

Now that we’re well into July, we’ve had a chance to see the Collector’s Bounty buff in action within old raids and dungeons. This month-long bonus increases the drop rate of many of the most sought after mounts and legendary components in the history of World of Warcraft, as well as a flat doubling of the amount of transmog loot that drops in legacy content.

With further clarification, we know a little bit more about the math behind the buff. There is a 5% increased chance of looting any mount from a pre-Dragonflight dungeon or raid. This ends up being a huge increase for my own personal unicorn, Mimiron’s Head. I have been slogging my way through the hallways of Ulduar and listening to the various complaints of its resident Keepers for a decade without the reward of my own personal giant robot head helicopter.

July has been busy for me so far, but I have managed to sneak a few Yogg-Saron kills in. Alas, I was not fortunate enough to loot my coveted flying machine. The silver lining, however, is that the transmog drop increase allowed me to complete a few of the sets that I didn’t have from Ulduar, even after all those previous helicopter-less runs.

In fact, I’m having more fun with the transmog aspect of the Collector’s Bounty month than I anticipated. Maybe that will change if I actually nab a mount from my most wanted list, like Experiement 12-B or the Armored Razzashi Raptor. Until then, the major advantage of the transmog drop doubling is that it is guaranteed.

If you haven’t spent much time in a raid at all, running through for the first time while this buff is active seems almost unfair. Your wardrobe will be so stuffed full of new looks that you’ll need the rest of the summer just to sort them out. Conversely, if you’re waiting on just a piece or two from an old raid to complete a legacy tier set, this is perfect time to go for it. I was down to just two items left in all of Molten Core for my last two tier sets, and both relevant bosses dropped two copies of each of those items on my first run.
