The latest expansion for Guild Wars 2, Visions of Eternity, is now live!

Guild Wars 2’s sixth expansion, Visions of Eternity, is now live! The third installment since the game switched to an annual expansion model, Visions of Eternity has the Commander and their allies venture to the island realm of Castora to stop the machinations of the Inquest.

Two new explorable maps with a host of PVE activities including a new Raid encounter will be available at launch as well as updates to the Skimmer mount, the return of Elite Specs for Professions, two new Legendary items and a brand new Homestead location on the tropical coast. Future quarterly releases in 2026 will bring two additional maps with story expansion, more Raid Encounters, a new Convergence, and additional Legendary equipment to craft alongside the standard system updates and new Homestead decorations.

If you’re thinking about playing the latest expansion, here’s what’s coming to Guild Wars 2 in Visions of Eternity.

Venture to Castora and stop the Inquest

The fabled island realm of Castora is home to a wealth of ley-infused and magic-warped animals and elements. The Asuras of the Inquest are heading there to exploit its riches for their own use so the Tyrian Alliance once again calls upon the Commander (aka the Wayfinder, aka the player character) to lead their allies to determine what the members of the Inquest are up to and stop them if necessary.

While details of what the player may encounter in Castora are scant at this time it is expected there will be the standard campaign-style story quests as well as new events throughout the maps. Rytlock Brimstone and Isgarren are both seen in the trailer so they will be along as allies but other returning allies are yet to be known. Raids are continuing their re-emergence in GW2 with new encounters planned in Castora; whether the target will be the Inquest headquarters shown in the trailer is to be determined.

Visions of Eternity brings with it the addition of nine new Elite Specializations for players

Elite Specializations have been a key component in the development of player customization over the history of GW2 but there have not been any added since the End of Dragons expansion launched four years ago. While Secrets of the Obscure uncoupled Elite Specs from certain weapons and Janthir Wilds added Spear combat for every profession, the expansion of gameplay options that come with an Elite Spec has been absent under the new annual release model until now.

Each profession will receive a new Elite Spec that will provide new traits, skills, and gameplay options. While not all of the Elite Specs have been revealed yet, it appears that ArenaNet will be bringing back two professions from the original Guild Wars with Warriors having the option to become Paragons and Necromancers able to take on the role of the Ritualist. Mesmers will be able to let their inner bard out with a new musical instrument-based spec while the artwork suggests that Rangers will be able to summon a flock of seagulls to attack their enemies — although World of Warcraft players may consider that a war crime.

New expansion means a new Homestead — this time on the beach

The hugely popular Homestead feature in Guild Wars 2 gets its first new iteration in Visions of Eternity and those who’ve always wanted to live in a tropical paradise in-game are in for a treat. In addition to a second location there is a new Homestead Layout feature that allows players to save and share their Homestead setup making it easy to switch between the two sites. If you’re attached to the Janthir Wilds’ Homestead there is no need to fret as players are not forced to move; they can have only one active location at a time but switching should be a breeze with the saved layouts.

While new decorations have been released with each quarterly update during Janthir Wilds, players should expect a large new set of objects to craft and display befitting an island home. Fortunately the latest update Absolution increased the quantity of decorations players are able to use on their homestead so most players will have plenty of space to add tropical accoutrements to their Homestead.

An old but improved mount and new Legendaries await in Castora

The aquatic setting of Visions of Eternity is once again allowing the development team to leverage an existing underused mount and appropriately enough it’s the Skimmer. Like the Warclaw in Janthir Wilds, a new mastery track will unlock combat options for the Skimmer as well as expanding its movement abilities to make it more useful around Castora.

Legendaries are a popular feature in Guild Wars 2 and several are promised for the expansion including an Aquabreather Legendary! This oft-forgotten piece of gear is used to breathe underwater so players should expect to get a lot of use out of it. There will also be a new Legendary Weapon available at launch and a Legendary Ring, Accessory, and another Weapon in future quarterly releases.

The Guild Wars 2 Visions of Eternity expansion is now live, and you can buy the expansion right now starting at $24.99.
