Epic Games Store is offering Civilization 6 for free this week

The Epic Games Store is giving away a game in one of the most iconic series this week for free, along with several of its DLCs. This is a must have — but there may be a catch.

  • DLC: There are both expansions and small DLC packs available, but many are included in the Platinum Edition.

Civilization as a franchise is somewhat binary. If you know, you know. If you like it, you like it, and if you don’t you hate it. My personal favorite was Civ 4, and the iconic work of Leonard Nimoy as the Narrator, but Sean Bean is okay, too. The version being given away includes several DLCs and expansions, so you’ll get a ton of additional content without spending a dime.

However, I will add that this title has recently been subject to a lot of review bombing because as of June, Firaxis changed the TOS of all Civ games to include a lot of security and other provisos that seem a little off. Security-minded players aren’t exactly jazzed to have to allow the company to scan their whole hard drives to make super duper sure they’re not trying to do something out of pocket, like mod a game they’ve already owned for 9 years. The horror.
