Hearthstone’s latest miniset is Day of Rebirth, launching September 2

Hearthstone’s The Lost City of Un’goro expansion is getting its miniset, as expected, and it’s called Day of Rebirth. The new miniset is stated to launch September 2, and details are very scant so far: we’ve been presented a new card mechanic, Ancient Masks, with a single example, and no new ways to use mechanics from the current expansion. Looks like we simply aren’t getting a ton of info in advance this time.

As usual, the miniset introduces 38 new cards:

  • 4 Legendaries (1 copy of each)
  • 2 Epics (2 copies of each)
  • 16 Rares (2 copies of each)
  • 16 Commons (2 copies of each)

Since there are two copies of all non-Legendary cards, getting the mini-set will net you a total of 72 new cards. You can get it either by paying $15 if you want to spend real money, or 2,000 gold if you’d prefer to use in-game currency. The super expensive all-Golden version of the mini-set is also here again, for those players willing to invest $70, or 10,000 gold. This version includes an extra Diamond copy of new legendary Beast Speaker Taka.

Whether you purchase the miniset or not, you’ll also be able to find its cards by opening The Lost City of U’ngoro packs, so some players might prefer to work on obtaining the new cards that way.

Ancient Masks let you impersonate iconic Beasts from the past

The new card mechanic this time is Ancient Masks. The only example provided so far is the new Hunter spell Devilsaur Mask:

  • 8 mana Hunter Spell
    • Set a minion’s stats to 8/8. Give it Charge.

This is basically King Krush on a stick. It will certainly allow Hunter players to close games: since the minion isn’t actually transformed, we can assume they keep any existing keywords or effects, so if you can slap this into something with Windfury, that can certainly work.

The miniset is launching in just a week: September 2 is when we’ll be able to crack some eggs. See you in the jungle.
