Enter the Phantom Thieves: Overwatch 2 brings a collaboration with Persona 5 from September 16 until September 30
The latest Overwatch 2 collaboration has started and this time it’s with the Phantom Thieves of Persona 5! The popular Japanese RPG will be supplying Legendary skins as well as a themed event hub, challenges and easter eggs. The crossover starts on September 16 and will run for two weeks until September 30.
For those who haven’t played it, Persona 5 is the latest main game in the popular Persona franchise. Set in the modern era, Persona varies its formula from game to game but the core gameplay remains the same: summon personas to defeat shadows and overcome bosses via turn-based combat. In between fights players can improve their personality stats and increase their social links with party members as well as other characters you meet along the way, sometimes even leading to a romance option — which since we never get a canon relationship results in “fun” arguments on the Internet.
Persona 5 is particularly situated for crossovers because while in the “Metaverse” the Phantom Thieves take on new identities giving them a superhero costume flair. This helps them look less out of place in other franchises compared to previous installments where the main outfit was typically a school uniform.

Five heroes get the Phantom Thief treatment
As usual the Legendary skins are the big draw for the event and new hero Wuyang continues his Season 18 spotlight by getting the protagonist’s Joker skin. The other character skins are:
- Mercy as Panther
- D.Va as Queen
- Genji as Skull
- Lifeweaver as Fox
The full megabundle will cost you 6900 coins or $60 if you don’t currently have any coins on your account. Bundles include not only the Legendary skin but also highlight intros/victory poses (the popular Persona All-Out Attack), name cards, icons, sprays, voice lines, and one “Jokermari” weapon charm. If you just want one hero’s bundle that’ll be 2800 coins or roughly $25 — there isn’t a direct purchase option for 2800 so you may need to buy multiple coin bundles.

Despite the memes, this collaboration probably does not mean Overwatch 2 will be offline in a year.
The Persona franchise is no stranger to crossovers having collaborated with both gaming franchises and real-life stores — I have some cute Persona/Wendy’s crossover items that I imported from Japan — but its ubiquity has started turning into a joke in places like Reddit as at least five online games have shut down servers within a year of a Persona crossover event. Of course the number of games surviving a collaboration is way higher, and Joker has not only been a character in Super Smash Brothers Ultimate for over six years but will also be part of a free DLC for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds alongside the world-renowned vocaloid Hatsune Miku.
This collaboration is only active for two weeks so throw away your mask and jump into Overwatch 2 for some Phantom Thief excitement.
