This week the Epic Games Store is giving away Road Redemption and Project Winter for free
The Epic Games Store is giving away two games for free this week. One of them we saw a month ago — sort of?
- Road Redemption
- Release Date: September 22, 2023
- Game Type: driving, vehicular combat
- POV: 1st person, 3rd person over-the-shoulder
- Party: Single player, co-op, PVP
- DLC: none
- This game was previously offered for free August 7, 2025.
So this is kind of a strange one. Road Redemption was just offered for free August 7. But this isn’t Road Redemption, it’s Road Redemption Full Game, like it’s the photoshop file for a work-in-progress. It seems like this includes some additional skin packs and features, but it isn’t hooked into the same URL as the previous Road Redemption giveaway which included these for purchase in its add-on area. This one also includes “mobile” in its URL string. It’s still a decent enough game — if you’re into driving and kneecapping goons while you’re driving — but I’m just looking at this one a little askance.
- Project Winter
- Release Date: May 23, 2019
- Game Type: social deception, deduction
- POV: third person isometric
- Party: PVP (party-based)
- DLC: There is an expansion, Blackout, plus you can purchase in-game currency.
At first I was very excited to see Project Winter, as someone who’s very into survival games and winter atmospheric vibes. However, as you read on it becomes clear that the point isn’t really a survival sim — this is basically Among Us, but in a snowy wilderness survival situation. If you have friends to play with this will likely be a great game, but if you’re relying on online multiplayer, it may be a rough go of it to fill a lobby at this point in the game’s lifespan, according to commenters.
