Hearthstone’s Across the Timeways expansion adds two new keywords and time-traveling fun — and you can play it right now!
As we all know, in Hearthstone, man plans, and Yogg laughs, but with the new Across the Timeways expansion, we might just have a tiny little bit more control over fate: we have some really fun cards and a new keyword that lets us alter outcomes we don’t like — at least once.
Chromie is back to take the fight to Murozond, crossing timelines to assemble heroes to face him. But more importantly: we finally got a proper cinematic song again!
So, after watching it, read on to learn more about the two new keywords that will let you bend time a little, and everything else you can expect from this new expansion.
New keyword: Fabled
Wield the powers of Warcraft icons from past, future, and alternate timelines! These storied heroes are so powerful, they bring extra Legendary cards with them that automatically slot into your deck.
Ranger General Sylvanas — the very-much-alive version from the past — adds her two sisters, Alleria and Vereesa, to your deck, and whenever you play one Windrunner sister, the next ones get stronger effects. When you add this new Sylvanas to your deck, her sisters are automatically slotted into your deck (but they take up space normally, so you’ll be using three card slots for the three of them).
Each class will get their own Fabled Legendary hero, though we don’t have details on all the other ones yet.

New keyword: Rewind
Rewind is a new keyword that lets you replay cards with random effects for another shot at a better outcome.
Basically, whenever you play a Rewind card, you get this shiny new UI element that lets you decide between rewinding whatever random effect the card just had if you don’t like it, or keeping it if you do. Iconic cards of the past like Unstable Portal have new versions: Semi-Stable Portal still adds a random minion to your hand, discounted, but at least you get the option to rewind it once if you want.
This keyword is certainly pretty exciting; random effects suddenly get a tiny little bit less random, giving players more control, and nudging effects slightly more towards skill than luck, which is a good thing in an environment like Hearthstone’s, where randomness runs so high. I’m definitely excited for this one.

Holy Gnomes, Warlocks who split people, and Wardens with comically-impossible vendettas
We have a small preview of what some of the classes might expect from this new expansion. Paladin players might be happy to know that they’re finally going back to a Control playstyle instead of the aggro from the latest several expansions. Gnomish leader Gelbin Mekkatorque — or a version of him from the future, infused with Holy powers for some reason — leads the charge, with lots of Aura effects. Gelbin himself plays one of each Aura from your deck with his Battlecry. Who is he?!
Warlocks get a card that is sure to be fun, or infuriating, or both: Divergence splits a minion in your hand into two halves. Each half gets half the cost (rounded), half the mana cost (rounded)… but the full effect. So for Legendaries with powerful Battlecries (especially those which you don’t really care about the stats on the card itself), you’re essentially getting a second copy, AND discounting each copy.
And Demon Hunters get one of the funniest cards ever in Timeway Warden, which imprisons an enemy minion FOR TEN THOUSAND YEARS TURNS — or until it dies, whichever comes first (assuming it didn’t get Silenced — which it totally should).

How to get Across the Timeways cards
The Pre-Purchase Bundles are no longer available, but you can buy the Across the Timeways Bundle ($20) or the Golden Across the Timeways Bundle ($40) to get a start on your collection. Both of these bundles include three “ranks” of bundle with each increasing in price (and offering more cards). It’s not as good a deal as the pre-purchase bundles, but if you’re willing to spend to boost your card collection, bundles are still available.
But there’s stuff for the rest of us too — even those who don’t want to spend any money. Everyone gets a free copy of Mister Clocksworth for just logging on, to give you a taste (or three) of the new Rewind mechanic. Then, head to the Shop to find two free copies of new minion Portal Vanguard — for yet more Rewinding. And check your quest log for the Across the Timeways event, which rewards you with seven packs for completing quests and just playing the game.
And, of course, you can always pick up packs for 100 gold each, without spending a single (real world) dime.
The expansion is now live, so I’ll see you in the future — or the past, I don’t know!
