Fear the Spotlight was one of the first games announced as a gaming arm to Blumhouse Studios, the famed horror movie producer. Since Fear the Spotlight they’ve both announced and released several other horror games, ranging from nailbiting suspense to splatterfests. Fear the Spotlight ranges more toward the tension side of things, rather than gore. You play as a teenage girl who messed up a séance at your high school, and now you have to make your way out — but watch out for the spotlight-headed monster hunting you.

It is a love letter to 90s horror games, as can be deduced by the art style alone. I haven’t had the pleasure of playing, but in the vein of your Evil Residents and Quiet Hills, I would guess that there’s a lot of breathlessly sneaking around and a few incredibly easy puzzles to solve in your path. I would also assume a few jump scares, though assuming that automatically means they’ll be less effective. Or maybe that’s the lie I’ll tell myself.
