Steam Animal Fest offers discounts on all animal-themed games, so find a fuzzy new favorite

If there’s anything we love at Blizzard Watch as much as video games it’s cute and cuddly animals. So when Steam announces a new hopefully annual event called Steam Animal Fest with sales on animal-themed games, we have no choice but to run on over and see if there are any animal games we want to add to our backlog play — and there are a lot of games and genres to choose from!

Several titles we’ve featured on BW this year are part of the sale, including Bear and Breakfast, Spirit of the North 2, Paper Animal Adventure and SunderfolkThere are also newer titles I imagine we’ll be playing soon such as My Little Puppy and Winter BurrowAnd of course there are some classic games in the mix including Goat Simulator (both original and remastered) and its sequel Goat Simulator 3, as well as Tunic, Little Kitty Big City, and Wingspan.

While our tastes here tend towards the cozy and cute the Steam Animal Fest also includes friends of a more aggressive nature. Besides the aforementioned Goat Simulator titles you’ll also find games with tendencies towards violence such as Ark: Survival Ascended, Wolf Quest, Maneater, and Empire of the Ants.

Of course one of the fun things about animal video games is the ability to own and show them off without worrying about pesky exotic animal control laws and that’s where simulators like Planet Zoo or Prehistoric Kingdom shine. If you’re not in the mood to host tourists however you can try to find forever homes for strays in the Animal Shelter series. Or perhaps you’ve always want to breed, raise and race horses but didn’t have the acreage and cash to do so and that’s where Rival Stars’ Horse Racing can help scratch that itch.

Simulation games can be a lot of work though and in the end you might want to just watch little animals on your desktop without putting in the effort and that’s where Idler games come in. Games like Chillquarium (“chill” is right in the name!), Tiny Pasture and Maltese’s Fluffy Onsen give you the chance to interact with cute animals without having to make the effort to build an entire zoo.

While this is only the first year of Steam Animal Fest hopefully it won’t be the last. If you find any fun games in the sale let us know in the comments below! Steam Animal Fest runs until November 17 10am pacific (1pm eastern).
