Where can I find vendors who sell player housing decor?

One of the headline features of World of Warcraft: Midnight will be Player Housing, a feature that has been requested since release 20 plus years ago. Despite being listed as a feature for the Midnight expansion, Blizzard surprised us all when they announced that it would be made available in Patch 11.2.7, currently scheduled for release on December 2 for NA and December 3 for EU regional weekly resets.

While claiming a housing plot and building your house(s) will require you to have a license to the Midnight expansion, all players will be able to start collecting decor immediately as the patch goes live. A number of sources for decor have been identified so far, including crafting, quest completions, achievements, boss drops, the trading post, the cash shop, and vendors. You can access the catalog of all decor from anywhere using the MicroMenu.

Even if you don’t want to use a piece of decor immediately, you may want to collect it anyway, as each unique uncommon, rare, or epic decor item you learn grants 10 house XP, which is used to level up and unlock new features in your house options.

Your housing catalog can currently hold a maximum of 5,000 items, and for each item you want to place you need to have a copy of it in your catalog. This means that if you want six matching chairs to go around your dining table, you need six copies of the chair in your catalog. At time of writing there has been over 2,200 different housing items discovered, over 1,000 of which can grant XP. Items that have been unlocked via activities such as quests or achievements will have any repeat items made available through a vendor somewhere in game.

Where to go shopping for decor

We are constantly finding new sources of decor. They are scattered all over the game world and thematically are often linked to the expansion they are found in. If you’re looking to start filling out your decor catalog, these are some of the places to start your journey to a hoarders paradise.

  • In your neighborhood. Each housing neighborhood will have four general faction-aligned decor vendors, a vendor who specializes in all things green and growing, and tucked away somewhere a cabal of pirate vendors who sell items from the opposing faction’s neighborhood vendors.
  • In major faction hubs. Most major faction hubs have at least one decor vendor somewhere — they may not be exactly where you expect, they may be lurking in dark corners, or their name may not immediately identify that they sell decor. Faction vendors can require faction specific currencies in addition to gold, or may have a rep requirement for purchase, as is the case with the Stormwind Quartermaster Lancy Revshon. She always sold the Stormwind tabard, but now she also sells Stormwind-themed decor.
  • People you have impressed in the past. Many renown vendors have begun stocking a small number of desirable decor items. These will often have specific renown and currency requirements to purchase as well.
  • Positioned close to significant story locations. Quest lines like racial heritage armor unlocks or major story beats seem to have associated decor vendors in the unlocked areas. They often have an achievement required to access the vendors.
  • Classy locales. With Legion Remix currently taking up peoples time, it’s worth checking whether there are any Legion items you want that are locked behind a Class Order Hall campaign — each class gets at least one item. The exception currently being Evokers, as they don’t have an Order Hall, but there are lots of Dracthyr items in Valdrakken.
  • We can build it. Or, someone can. While not directly purchased, scattered around at profession trainers are recipes for crafting decor. These are expansion specific, so you will need to check in with the profession trainers for your professions for each expansion. For Warlords of Draenor these will also require a profession specific garrison resource to purchase these recipes.

While we are constantly getting new information as beta progresses, this addon might help you find vendors that have been identified by the community: Decor Vendor. Its format is very similar to the Home Bound addon for tracking decor based achievements, with the vendors grouped by expansion, and the option to set an in-game waypoint to their commonly found location.

What currencies will I need?

Most vendor purchased items will require gold. Many will require gold and another expansion specific currency. The top 10 secondary currencies to collect are as follows:

  1. Order Resources — Legion (Class Order Hall)
  2. War Resources — Battle for Azeroth
  3. Resonance Crystals — The War Within
  4. Garrison Supplies — Warlords of Draenor, Garrison
  5. Dragon Isles Supplies — Dragonflight
  6. Voidlight Marl — Midnight
  7. Honor — PVP
  8. Community Coupons — Housing Endeavors Community Events
  9. Apexis Crystals — Warlords of Draenor
  10. Ancient Mana — Legion, Suramar

There are 30 different currencies that have been identified so far that can be used to purchase decor. Your best option is to browse through the Housing Catalog for information on sources and costs. If you can’t wait that long or want to start collecting currency now, the WoWDB Housing Hub will help you find which items you really want to collect and how to get them.
