The Darkside Detective is this week’s Epic Games Store free game of the week
This week, as every week, the Epic Games Store is giving away a game for free. This week’s game is a fun, funny, pixel art detective game.
- The Darkside Detective
- Release Date: December 7, 2021
- Game Type: deduction, exploration
- POV: 3rd person, 2D sidescroller
- Party: Single player
- DLC: None on Epic. The soundtrack is available for purchase on Steam.
The Darkside Detective asks, what would happen if you took a grizzled detective and set him on the mundane cases all cops see on a daily basis — but in a town where the occult is real. Take on cases featuring things like jaywalking zombies and neighbor disputes. Is there something more sinister at play in Twin Lakes? Keep on investigating and you might find something even scarier at play than workaday hauntings.
Funnily enough, I just wishlisted this game a few weeks ago, because I played through Spooky Doorway’s most recent offering, The Seance at Blake Manor. Blake Manor was a very fun deduction game in its own right, and has been recognized here and there in the year-end superlative roundups for its stellar narrative, especially since it has a deep look into certain aspects of Irish folklore. However, toward the end of the game there was an easter egg pointing to Darkside Detective, so I wishlisted it, too.
