Grab your rods and reels: fishing is coming to Diablo 4 (yes, seriously)
Blizzard has done it again: a major feature from Diablo Immortal seems to be added to Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred with a single line in a press release. “Players seeking respite from demon-slaying can experience the perilous waterways of Sanctuary with Fishing.” As a man who grew up playing Super Black Bass, sign me up! What but what might fishing in Diablo 4 entail?
Taking a look at Diablo Immortal‘s version of fishing is probably the best place to begin, as its implementation could easily be used in a mainstream Diablo title. Starting at level 46, a quest can be done that grants access to a fishing rod and the ability to fish. This also shows icons on the map of the three locations where you can fish. Worry not about monsters while ye attempt to catch a leviathan, for all fishing zones are designated safe zones, like towns are. Yet before you can fish, see the Fisher NPC to do the thing we hate doing in fishing games: buy some bait. Each fishing attempt takes 1 bait, and the Fisher sells an unlimited number — might be worth stocking up a bit. Fishing itself is a tappa-tappa minigame: you click to toss your lure into the water, then wait to see when you get a bite — with the longer time the lure is in the water leading to the possibility of rarer fish. Once you have a bite, there’s a sliding bar that you need to keep within in order to catch the fish itself. You do this by tapping (tappa-tappa) the fishing button to simulate the fight with the fish.
Why would you want to fish in a game like Diablo? Lore wise, well, people gotta eat. Gameplay wise, at least in Immortal, fishing can be lucrative because your hard earned catch can be traded to the Fisher for gold, legendary items, normal gems, experience, and transmog. Catch some fish and trade them in to get yourself a blinged out fishing rod! Besides, it can be fun to have just a relaxing side activity to do that can earn you some bonuses for when you’re ready to really dig your heels in.
Fishing’s coming to Diablo 4 in the Lord of Hatred expansion, which is going to release on April 28, 2026.
