We’ll actually be able to get mail from post box decor items in Midnight
It looks like Midnight will arrive with a much asked-for tweak to Player Housing — the ability for decor mailboxes to actually function and allow the retrieval of in-game mail. While this is far from the most impactful feature that is included in the next chapter of World of Warcraft, it’s always nice when then developers respond to player feedback by simply enacting the desired quality of life upgrade.
Players recently noticed that post box decor items the latest Midnight beta build were fully operational. Blizzard confirmed on social media that this was intended behavior, and we’ll be able to collect our Auction House proceeds and alt army correspondence from our own front yards.
Why this functionality was not implemented from the beginning remains unknown. Perhaps the housing team wanted to avoid players spending all of their time on their own property. This seems a bit silly to me, as having to travel back and forth to a proper city to pick up messages doesn’t seem like enough motivation for me to leave home in the middle of a decorating marathon. Much more likely is the fact that we are still in early access for Player Housing, and features are still being added or implemented as we get closer to its true launch.
All of this means it is now time to select a mailbox to place on your front lawn. I went with a Stampwhistle’s Postal Portal for my Razorwind Shores plot, but I’m torn between a Gilnean Postbox and Wolvar Postbag at my spooky Founder’s Point residence. When Midnight goes live we will also get Tuskarr and Tauren options, as well as a sharp-looking Void Elf mailbox that seems to be hovering in midair.
With this change being official, it’s fair to wonder what other decor items could see their intended use be activated. If we can retrieve mail from post boxes, why not let us craft armor on our Dalaran Runic Anvils or whip up potions with out Pandaren Alchemist’s Kits? What item in your house do you wish was fully functional?
