Ysera is the newest pet in Hearthstone, and she’s somehow even cuter than the rest — but this precious pet still costs $158

Last time we talked about Hearthstone pets, they cost $158. It’s been a few months, quite a few more of those pets were added to the game, and they still cost $158. The latest one is Ysera, in my opinion the cutest one so far, but the way to obtain it is still through the — let’s not mince words — extremely predatory Darkmoon Faire roulette.

You can read the full details on our previous post, but the gist of it is that it’s a gacha-style roulette with several possible prizes, including the pet, and your first roll is free. But the chances of getting the pet on that single free roll are microscopically low (around 0.1%), and they increase by absolutely measly amounts with each new roll. At the same time, each roll costs proportionally more than the previous. By the time you’ve already purchased nine rolls and there are only two prizes left, you’d think your chances to get the pet would be at around 50%, right? Wrong: they’re still at a diabolical 6.67%.

So the only way to guarantee you’ll get the top prize — usually a pet, and this time the incredibly cute Ysera — is to purchase all ten rolls to get every prize on the roulette. And the cost of that is — you guessed it — $158.

It’s still absurd. It’s still infuriating. Yet a small amount of players are still getting those pets, which means that we can’t really expect whoever is in charge of Hearthstone monetization to change things up.

Alas, this small and extremely cute Ysera the Dreamer is the Hearthstone equivalent of a Kiton suit, and the majority of us will have to keep Dreaming about it.
