Everyone can now earn their own Dark Portal Player Housing decor by logging on to WoW

Have you ever looked at your front lawn and thought “gee, a portal to a nether dimension would look lovely next to my Azaleas” in Player Housing? Well you’re in luck, because Blizzard is giving players their own Miniature Replica Dark Portal decor! (Unfortunately, if you want a Dark Portal in real life, you’re going to have to DIY it.) This Dark Portal is extremely easy to acquire: from January 29 to March 2 (the official launch date of Midnight) you will gain the achievement “It’s Nearly Midnight” when you log on to World of Warcraft. That’s it. You should now have your very own replica of the Dark Portal.

While being called a miniature replica of the Dark Portal, it is still one of the larger housing items in size and will take up 5 items in your budget. Found in the Structures tab under Large Structures, the Dark Portal can be scaled up to close to the size of the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands, and when scaled down it is still bigger than a Gnome. So it’s probably too big to just put on your bedstand to use as a night light.

An advantage of the Dark Portal — beyond the fact that it’s the Dark Portal — is that you can walk through the star field, so with some clever lining up, you can easily hide a door behind it to make it the entrance to your home or the gateway to another room inside. Maybe sneak it behind a secret bookcase door?

And best of all, after getting your first Dark Portal, you can buy more. You could fill your home and your garden with Dark Portals if you really wanted to. You’ll find additional copies available from Gabbi in Orgrimmar and Tuuran in Stormwind City, near the Trading Post. While the Dark Portal itself is priceless, these decor replicas cost 1,425 gold each.
