How to unlock steady flight in WoW Midnight

Both Skyriding and steady flight return as travel options in World of Warcraft: Midnight, but Skyriding is available almost immediately — just after you finish the introductory quest chain — and will be the main method players will rely on for travel during their first Midnight campaign playthrough. That’s because steady flight isn’t available until later in the expansion. Similar to how steady flight was handled in The War Within, is locked behind the Midnight Pathfinder achievement which has 6 completable criteria:

Though that’s a lot of achievements, this means unlocking steady flight is fairly straightforward: play through and complete each Midnight zone‘s story questline and uncover each zone map by exploring. Each zone story is broken up into three acts and the overall campaign story will guide you from zone-to-zone seamlessly. Completing the story questlines and uncovering the map go hand-in-hand, and while there are some areas of the map of you will probably need to go off and uncover independently, the majority of map is probably going to clear up as you make your way through the Midnight campaign.

Midnight Pathfinder is an account-wide achievement so once you unlock it, the rest of your characters will be able to toggle between Skyriding and steady flight whenever you want. It’s worth pointing out that you’ll earn some extra rewards while completing this pathfinder achievement, specifically the Amani appearances for Darkspear Trolls after finishing For Zul’Aman and Finery Funds at the achievements end.

It is a bit of a bummer that steady flight is locked behind an achievement, especially for the players who rely on it as a necessity instead of a preference over Skyriding. Blizzard has tried to improve Skyriding’s overall mechanics ahead of Midnight so that players will have a more favorable experience when using it and it’s worth taking a look before jumping into Midnight so you know what to expect.
