How to win the Cataclysm Recipe Hearthstone Tavern Brawl
Once again, it’s a new Hearthstone expansion, Cataclysm, and we get a new “recipe” Brawl. On these, you pick a class and the game provides you with the latest deck recipe from that class, so you can immediately test it out against another player. It’s a very simple Brawl, meant to allow players to try out the new cards and mechanics even if they haven’t collected those cards yet.
So read on to learn what to expect from this Cataclysm Recipe brawl!

Cataclysm has some very fun mechanics. Although the deck recipes might not end up providing the strongest decks if you’re actually trying to climb the Standard ladder, here they can only be pitted against each other, so the power level seems adequate. Of course, some decks will be stronger than others, naturally, so we recommend that you pick a class you’re familiar with.

How to win the Cataclysm Recipe Tavern Brawl
Although our main recommendation is for you to pick a class you’re familiar with, the truth is that some of the recipes are naturally stronger than others — or, at least, easier to play.
- The Hunter deck is aggressive and will dominate the board with strong Dragons. The more Dragons you play, the better your other cards get. No mystery here, which makes it a solid pick.
- The Mage deck is very straightforward: lots of damage spells, and lots of +Spell Damage effects. You’ll keep controlling the board and trying to set up good turns with Spellweaver’s Brilliance, which gets discounted the more spells you play that turn.
- The Shaman deck has lots of minions with good stats and Rush, and ways to generate offensive spells, aiming to close games with Rehgar Earthfury and Al’Akir, Lord of Storms.
- The Demon Hunter deck controls the board while constantly buffing your hero and giving you attacks. The big Colossal here is Azshara, Ocean Lord, who gives you Windfury — so aim to play her on a turn you can get a lot of attack.
- The Paladin deck has strong “end of turn” effects, giving you buffs, random spells, and direct damage. Very strong effects that you don’t have full control over, but can certainly lead you to victory.
You might want to pick one of those simpler or more aggressive decks, while avoiding ones like Rogue, Priest, Warlock, and Druid, that are either more complicated or simply weaker recipes overall.
Either way, jump in, pick a class, and good luck getting your pack!
