How to get your own pet Murloc in Diablo 4 — by fishing (obviously)

Grab your rod and reel because it’s time to go fish up a murloc — not in World of Warcraft, but in Diablo 4. That’s right, it’s been discovered that the adventures in fishing are only beginning, as you can now catch yourself a murloc pet for the low, low cost of… probably several hours of game time and your sanity. The murloc pet also has a name, and it’s Trawghll.

Fishing has been a surprisingly popular hit since the newest expansion, Lord of Hatred, released several weeks back. Many of you read my initial post about how fishing works and went out to catch some for yourself. In the time since, we’ve learned about the Cow Level — and not only do you need to fish for that, but there’s fish there too. Now we’ve learned through a post by user BooleanBarman on reddit that you can catch your own murloc pet through fishing as well. Knowing it exists and can be fished up is one thing, but what do we know about how to catch this elusive pet?

  • You do not need to have caught all of the fish so far.
  • Difficulty level probably doesn’t matter for something like this. [Uncertain]
    • It’s also possible you need to be on at least Torment 1. Probably wouldn’t hurt.
  • The drop rate is very, very low. Likely the same as mount drops off bosses. Estimates by the Reddit community are ~.01%.
  • The drop is called Gurgling Bag of Rubbish and it’s a mythic drop.

So I did what any good journalist would do: I began fishing to try and give you an idea of how long this might take. After two hours, I have caught almost all of the fish in the Skovos region (still missing two) but have gotten no closer to getting the drop. Just to post my own findings, I was fishing in the pools just outside of the northeast exit of Temis. I spent the first hour on Torment 7, and the second hour on normal (with the thought that every couple casts I was fishing up a mob that needed to be killed, so on normal my paladin would just instantly murder it). Alas, after two hours the game disconnected me and wouldn’t let me reconnect, so my fishing adventures will need to continue after this post.

One unfortunate thing I did learn that I’d like to share: loot filters do not work on fishing drops. I was really hoping that I could just filter out all of the junk drops, but there’s no option to filter out the “junk” category, so expect to fill your screen with a lot of useless trash before finding this mythical pet.
