What is the Midnight patch 12.1 release date? Very good odds point to August 11
The World of Warcraft content train shows no sign of slowing down as we start to head into the end of the first set of patches for Midnight. No sooner did we start to scratch the surface of all that patch 12.0.7 brought to us — a veritable buffet of things to do on its own — than Blizzard dropped a huge episode of WoWCast with all sorts of info about patch 12.1, Midnight: Curse of Ula’tek. Fair warning if you’re trying not to get spoiled on story elements: the WoWCast contains pretty thorough spoilers on a quest chain that is still time-gated on live servers for over twenty days.
One thing we didn’t get in that announcement was even a hint of a release date, but given how successful Blizzard has been at dropping content patches every eight weeks, I feel fairly safe in predicting that we’ll see patch 12.1 on August 11, 2026.

What’s in patch 12.1?
As is normal for the major patch updates (as opposed to ones ending in .5 or .7), patch 12.1 looks like it’s going to be a very beefy patch not just in story and content, but in improvements to new systems too. For a patch that centers around one island, you’d be surprised how much is packed into it.
- The continuation of both the story campaign and the Zul’jan quest chain from 12.0.7, leading us to the Coiled Isle, the foggy island off of the coast of Zul’aman
- An expansive new outdoor zone with its own events like the Vaults of Atal’Utek and Cursed Fishing (isn’t most fishing cursed?)
- A new eight-boss raid called The Venomous Abyss, and a three-boss dungeon called Altar of Fangs, plus two new regular delves, and a new Nemesis delve
- A new kind of instance called Lairs, for taking on world bosses
- New quests in the Arcantina, which hopefully will also include new player housing decor
- Lots of player housing updates — save, import, and export blueprints; welcome your minipets into your home; bring new visitors into your neighborhood with new Endeavors
- And, of course, class updates!
Also there’s something about hunting down Xal’atath again, but that’s fine that we have no idea where she is. I’m sure she’ll come back to tell us when she’s outsmarted us again. For now, we’ve got this whole island full of poison and snakes to explore!
