Midnight patch 12.1 release date is August 11, so get ready to venture to the Coiled Isle
The World of Warcraft content train shows no sign of slowing down as we start to head into the end of the first set of patches for Midnight. No sooner did we start to scratch the surface of all that patch 12.0.7 brought to us — a veritable buffet of things to do on its own — than Blizzard announced WoW patch 12.1, Midnight: Curse of Ula’tek.
And now Blizzard has confirmed the release date for WoW patch 12.1: Curse of Ula’tek will launch on August 11, 2026, exactly eight weeks after the launch of patch 12.0.7. Midnight Season 2 will start a week later, on August 18.
If you haven’t been keeping up, here are the basics on what’s coming to WoW with patch 12.1.

What’s in WoW patch 12.1?
As is normal for the major patch updates (as opposed to ones ending in .5 or .7), patch 12.1 looks like it’s going to be a very beefy patch not just in story and content, but in improvements to new systems too. For a patch that centers around one island, you’d be surprised how much is packed into it.
- The continuation of both the story campaign and the Zul’jan quest chain from 12.0.7, leading us to the Coiled Isle, the foggy island off of the coast of Zul’aman; we’ll also be hunting down Xal’atath with Arator
- An expansive new outdoor zone with its own events like the Vaults of Atal’Utek, Curse Surges, and Cursed Fishing (isn’t most fishing cursed?)
- Season 2 of Midnight‘s dungeon and raid content: a new eight-boss raid called The Venomous Abyss, a three-boss dungeon called Altar of Fangs, two new regular delves, a new Nemesis delve, new Prey targets on the Coiled Isle, and a new Mythic+ dungeon pool
- A new kind of instance called Lairs, for taking on world bosses at Normal, Heroic, and Mythic difficulties
- New quests in the Arcantina, which hopefully will also include new player housing decor
- User interface updates for the Cooldown Manager (now featuring the ability to track trinket and potion cooldowns) and the Ping System
- Lots of player housing updates — save, import, and export blueprints; welcome your minipets into your home; bring new visitors into your neighborhood with four new Endeavors
- And, of course, class updates!
Also there’s something about hunting down Xal’atath again, but that’s fine that we have no idea where she is. I’m sure she’ll come back to tell us when she’s outsmarted us again. For now, we’ve got this whole island full of poison and snakes to explore!
