The decks you need to win the Underdog Rules Hearthstone Tavern Brawl

This week’s Hearthstone Tavern Brawl is another oldie. Underdog Rules returns after eleven years, and it has a very simple rule that is implied by the name: each turn, the player who’s losing gets a random minion to help them.

Is that rule enough to create wacky, exciting games? Mayhap! Either way, you’ll want to adapt to this gimmick, so read on to find out the best decks to help you do so.

At the start of each player’s turn, if they have a small health deficit, they get a benefit: a random minion joins their board. That means that any deck that benefits from self-inflicting damage or just from playing from behind in general has an edge here. Decks that are board-based might also work better than decks that try to win through other strategies, like combos or burn.

Since the minions you get are random, you can’t really strategize much around them, other than making sure your deck won’t be negatively impacted by them. But you may also want to make sure you can deal with whatever random stuff joins your opponent’s board, so having removal effects can be good.

• This deck is the clear winner this week. Seedlock is all about inflicting a lot of damage to your own hero, fast, and benefitting from that. Your deck is already prepared to see your health go down, and in this Brawl, you’ll basically be double-dipping from that strategy!

• This deck gains a LOT of armor and lets you deal damage each time you do. You’ll probably have some early turns where you don’t do much, but that’s okay: if your opponent damages you early on, you get the free minions, and then you make up for it with armor!

• While this deck doesn’t really synergize directly with the Brawl, it’s just a strong Wild deck in general that might see you win if you can build it, so it’s a very viable option.
