Battle for Azeroth and Legion reputation will become Warband-wide in 12.1.5

Along with a multitude of other features coming in Midnight’s patch 12.1.5, it was announced that another two expansions will have their reputation become Warband-wide: Battle for Azeroth and Legion. This is great news for achievement hunters, mount farmers, alt army commanders, and completionists of all classes and races.

Although the Warband feature rolled out with the launch of The War Within, the behind-the-scenes untangling of code involved in linking reputation gains from previous expansions across players’ accounts has been complex. Rather than attempting to straighten out the necessary code for all ten previous chapters of World of Warcraft, the Blizzard team has taken their time and worked backwards expansion by expansion.

It’s been exactly one expansion cycle since we saw Shadowlands reputation go account-wide in patch 11.1.5. Perhaps we will continue to acquire Warband-shared reputation for a previous expansion or two with every -.1.5 patch in the future.

While many players will enjoy instant account-wide exalted status with Broken Isles factions due to last year’s Legion: Remix, there are surely plenty of things to do for both Alliance and Horde players once every one of their characters can contribute to reputation gains and enjoy the rewards of exalted status.

Here are the reputations that will be Warband-shared when Midnight patch 12.1.5 goes live:

We haven’t received any further details, so check back for more information on how the math will work out. Your new reputation level could be the highest among your characters’ levels, or the credits could get combined across your Warband. We’ll also be sure to update the list in case any of these factions are left out of the combining process.

So what kinds of things will be possible with Warband-wide reputation? The first thing I always look to is professions. The pattern that would allow me to bring my Tailoring skill up to max has been locked behind a reputation grind that I just don’t have time to complete for a second time since 2017, and now I can waltz right up to the vendor, show them my Warband ID, and buy it for a handful of gold.

Players also may be able to use this account-wide reputation share to earn rewards like artifact weapon appearances more easily. Depending on the implementation, certain low-chance mount drops may be farmable on all of your characters each week. Finally, you can switch up characters halfway through an old reputation grind that you never quite finished in an example of the way Warbands were meant to function.
