BlizzCon Fashion: Rating the Opening Ceremony Outfits

Welcome back to the fashion contest Blizzard employees didn’t realize they were competing in! Well, except for Holly; she definitely knew. Hey, visuals matter, and we’re here to give it an arbitrary ranking based on vibes, color, and sparkle. Ok, there is some actual fashion critique as well.

Johanna Faries: 8/10

A strong start with Johanna. Color! Monochromatic accessorizing! SPARKLY BOOTS! We love the dress, and you’ll always capture our hearts with a little (or a lot of) glitter. The flowy and sheer texture of the dress and cardigan really add a bit of whimsy. I’m getting a lot of Cinderella Disneybounding here, with a hint of (spoilers) Skyborne.

Dan Hay: 4/10

Dan, please. Didn’t you know we would be doing this? I choose to believe this outfit had a dual purpose of setting off Johanna’s outfit by contrast, and acting as a palate cleanser. Points for being entirely monochromatic, but you could have jazzed it up a bit. Maybe some glitter?

Aaron Keller: 7/10

We have to appreciate holo when we see it. A themed jacket, holographic accents, with color?! It looks great contrasted with the dark pants and shoes.

Ben Bell: 5/10

Ben! Get down! There are so many snipers trained on you!

The contrast of the light jeans and dark shirt looks nice next to Aaron’s light jacket and dark pants, but it’s not really cohesive. Points for some color.

Miranda Moyer: 10/10

The gauntlet! Gold filigree! Offset by a sheer balloon sleeve! Sparkles! Gold ear cuff! Accessorizing is on point with the ladies. I love the red and gold combo. Her eyeshadow matches! Though I wouldn’t have said no to a more prominent gold shadow. Our only quibble is balancing. It feels like the outfit could use a longer dress with short boots, or higher boots with a short dress. But it looks like the boots have some sort of embellishment or sparkles on the back, so all is forgiven.

Tiffany Wat and Brent Gibson: 5/10

I keep giving out points for color, but that’s because we had so much black last BlizzCon and I was a little afraid we’d see more of it. Bonus points for Tiffany’s purple pants and cohesiveness in tying the shoes to the top to make her pants and belt pop. Brent has more black, but his shoes also match his shirt and I appreciate that detail.

Joe Shely: 4/10

Points for not all black, and matching his shoes to his shirt. Leaning heavily into the dark neutrals here, but it could use a pop of brighter color like the other two.

Nathan Lyons-Smith: 7/10

Fun, and color?! The shirt, while simple, is cute and fun, and using autumn tones, which we usually don’t see much in the sea of Blizzard’s blue. I also like that he’s wearing a color that goes well with his undertone (or color season, if you so please), which a lot of people aren’t well versed in.

Brenden Sewell: 8/10

Another fun shirt! In a jewel tone! And they’re a set! Brenden also knows the value of being cohesive, and I appreciate the warm tone of his outfit and that his shoes match his blazer. I’d take away points for the fact that both of their shirts really need to be together for the full impact, but I like to imagine wearing this shirt on its own just invites questions about what else you really ❤️.

Ion Hazzikostas: 7/10

Points for texture! I think someone told everyone to make sure to match their shoes to something, which upgrades their outfits. His look is understated yet tailored and the quilted texture on the coat adds a bit of pizzazz to an otherwise simple outfit. It’s neutral but it works, you know?

Holly Longdale: 12/10 no notes

You know what we were waiting for. Holly was ready for our shenanigans and blew us away. Everything is perfection. What can I even say, just look at it! I don’t even know where to start. The iridescent fabric accents, her gold ear cuff, her nails, the sleeves, the armor, the sheer train. *Chef’s kiss*. It looks to be partly Medivh-inspired, but then she announced World of Warcraft: Forever and we revised our opinion to be perhaps referring to the Skyborne. Liz H. said Holly’s outfit really sets off her eyes and I have to agree. Holly knew the assignment and came prepared. I can only imagine next BlizzCon she’ll have full-on functional wings or something.
