What you need to know about WoW Forever’s Campfire system and how it works

World of Warcraft: Forever‘s Campfire system is a new, multi-purpose mechanic that’s part of the reworked and expanded profession system for the game mode. It’s meant to promote social interactions and cooperation with other players in the world, it gives players a chance to rest which buffs their stats, and helps players give each other stat buffs with new profession-specific items, sharing new benefits of their profession beyond crafting or gathering items.

As part of the new profession system, there’s going to be more to learn as the beta and eventual game launch on November 4, but here’s everything we’ve learned about Campfire in WoW: Forever so far.

What is the Campfire system and how does it work?

At the core of the Campfire system is the Cooking profession, which remains a secondary profession in WoW: Forever, so every character can still learn how to do it but players are still limited to only two of the primary crafting and gathering professions. Part of learning how to Cook is learning Basic Campfire skill that, when used in the open world of WoW: Forever, lets you create a Campsite.

At a Campsite, other players in the open world can join you and use the space for repairs, gain one-hour buffs to their stats, and use new profession items. Each profession now has three new items that can be learned as the skill is leveled from 1-300, with the first item becoming accessible at skill level 20 for each profession. These items can be learned through a combination of vendor questing/training and dungeon boss drops.

Players will only be able to contribute one special profession item to a Campfire which can initially have up to 3 total profession items placed around it, with higher level Campfires able to have up to 10 items. Each profession item is on a shared cooldown timer with other Campsite items and each will contribute an additional one-hour buff to a certain skill or stat to the members of the Campsite. These buffs are considered variants of class buffs and can’t be stacked with them.

For PVP players, take extra care where you place your Campsite because it’s implied that Campsites aren’t counted as Sanctuaries and can become a fighting ground in the wrong place.
