Midnight gets its second eight-hour maintenance week, plus extended maintenance for other WoW servers

It’s a long maintenance day in World of Warcraft no matter what you play. Midnight servers will be offline for a full eight hours (again), while WoW Classic servers will be offline for four hours. That’s a pretty lengthy maintenance for a week in which very little is happening (but more on that in a minute).

Here’s the WoW maintenance schedule for Tuesday, October 20:

  • Midnight: Offline from 7am – 3pm pacific (10am – 6pm eastern)
  • Mists of Pandaria Classic: Offline from 7am – 11am pacific (10am – 2pm eastern)
  • WoW Classic (including Classic Era, Season of Discovery, and Hardcore realms): Offline from 7am – 11am pacific (10am – 2pm eastern)
  • The Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary realms: Offline from 7am – 11am pacific (10am – 2pm eastern)

All World of Warcraft servers are currently offline.

Last week Midnight rolled out patch 12.1.5 with a few frustrating bugs… apparently enough to require an additional eight hours of maintenance this week despite no new content scheduled. Some changes will come when the servers go back online: Venomstones will be available for further gear upgrades and the crest cap will be gone, so collect as many as you’d like this week. And due to those bugs I mentioned, we all have another week to get the Fabled Let Me Solo Him: Kindo’jan achievement, which you would have gotten by killing Kindo’jan solo in the first week of Labyrinths being available. But bugs through the week could brick your progress on a Labyrinth, leaving you nothing to do but restart before you even reached Kindo’jan. (The result, at least for me, was that by the time I reached Kindo’jan it was late and I was tired and I made stupid mistakes.) The extra week (hopefully with fewer bugs) will be nice.

On Classic realms, this Thursday The Burning Crusade Classic anniversary realms move to phase 3.5, which adds the Zul’aman raid and removes attunements from older raids to make them more accessible. This could be causing this week’s extra maintenance, but it’s maintenance for all Classic realms — including Classic Era and Mists of Pandaria — so it may be unrelated. There has been no announcement of other updates, so your guess is as good as mine. Ghosts, maybe? We can always blame ghosts.

We might get some hotfix notes later today, but for now this is all we know. I’ll keep you updated on current WoW server status right here, and let you know when servers are back online or if maintenance is extended… but let’s hope it won’t be. I’ll see you in Azeroth soon…ish.
