The Queue: Why do I keep my chips out in the snow?

Welcome to The Queue, Blizzard Watch’s daily question and answer column. Matthew Rossi (@matthewwrossi) will be answering your questions today. Have a question of your own? Just leave it in the comments and we’ll try to answer!

Okay, so there’s a funny story behind the title of today’s Queue. I’m not going to tell it, though. I think it’s better if you imagine it.

Dudemankata asks:

Okay but.. Q4tQ: How epic IS Rossi’s beard? Slay-Deathwing epic, or Lich-King-won’t-kill-you-but-mocks-you-menacingly epic?

Honestly, it’s just a normal beard. Nothing special about it.

XYMANDIAS asks:

Q4tQ and Community

Do you have trouble deciding which of Blizzard’s games will get the lions share of your precious playtime? My problem is that I thoroughly enjoy all of the currently available games, and when I open up the launcher, I find myself logging into WoW because it is on the top of the list. But then when I’m playing I think about the map I’m building in StarCraft, or the rifts I could be running in Diablo, or leveling up my Jim Raynor in Heroes… Just so many options. All of them enjoyable. So, how do you decide what to play?

When I’m guilded and raiding, WoW gets the lion’s share of my attention. If I’m feeling solitary and just want to be more or less by myself, I play Diablo. Right now I’m not playing Heroes or Hearthstone, but I’m definitely considering giving Starcraft II a try, and I’m eagerly anticipating Overwatch when it arrives. I’ll still probably play WoW more than the others, though.

Beartooth asks:

Q4tQ: Why do smart heals still heal people still standing in the bad?

They’re not smart as in they went to college. They just prioritize people who need healing over people at full health, they don’t actually go well, I’m not healing that guy, he’s just going to take more damage anyway. That’s a level of smart that takes all the player out of the equation. I realize you probably meant this as a joke, but I felt like answering.

Tanaman asks:

So can’t you rewrite older kyl’s.  Keep the same idea but express it differently?

Basically, think of this as a whole new Know Your Lore. We have the opportunity to go back and do everything, every characters and important lore moment, from the experience of having written all those KYLs from the past. I think both Anne and I are seasoned pros at this point and we can get at this stuff far better than we did when we started.

valencemagi asks:

Q4tQ: Warriors.  How to level one?  Fury is certainly the more fun spec, but do we have to stick to TG?  or is SMF viable?  For killing things, I mean.

You can level them any way you want, and fury is absolutely viable for it. I intend to level a new warrior from level 1 and play with all  the specs, prot, arms and fury. SMF is certainly a viable leveling spec as long as your weapons are relatively current — heirlooms in particular help equalize the playing field. One of my level 90 alts is currently using two 2h heirlooms from Garrosh to level, while the  other is using one of them, and my level 1 is going to use a 1h weapon and shield and level prot. In the past they’ve all worked fine (protection is especially viable from 10 to 60 or so) and I don’t foresee any difficulties this time out.

So yeah, go for SMF if you want. I don’t personally understand why anyone likes SMF — it feels too roguey for my tastes. But it absolutely should work.

thilthedruid asks:

Q4tQ: Am I the only one that feels like JC has completely lost all its flavor?  I don’t understand how it is any different than Enchanting, other than that instead of enhancing an item directly, you enhance it via a socket.  Colors, a defining characteristic of JC, gone.  Multiple stat gems, gone. Meta gems, gone.  I realize that a large majority of cuts were not useful, but they could easily have pared down the number of cuts and still kept the essence of the profession.  Now it just feels blah.

One of the two level 90s I just started working on is a jewelcrafter, and I agree with you. It feels very blah. Granted, I just hit 91, so maybe it’ll pick up once I’m further along, but at the moment I’m not feeling the love for JC.

ErmelynP asks:

QftQ: Am I the only one still working on leveling up anything is WoD? I keep seeing all these posts and blogs about people being bored as they’ve done everything but I’m still working on leveling my garrison buildings, reaching prof max levels, doing dungeons, etc.

My draenei hit 100 way back in November, but now I’m working on two of my level 90 warrior alts and a level 1 alt, either a draenei or gnome, so no, it’s not just you.

And that’s my Queue for this week. No dinosaurs this week, I’m afraid. Maybe next week.
