The Queue: Oops

So I forgot to do my apexis daily yesterday. Honestly, while I am getting back into playing WoW, I really don’t think I can do stuff on an everyday basis. I’m just not that kind of person. Even back when I was raiding hardcore, I really only logged on for raid days. Now that I’m starting to gear up, my inclination is to go right back to that style of play, and it’s definitely at odds with logging on every day for the apexis daily or to get all my followers working on missions. Not sure what to do about that.

Anyway, here’s the Queue. Why is there a picture of an Andrewsarchus up there? Well, here’s the deal – one of the things WoW hasn’t done much of is lost world stuff that isn’t basically  just another dinosaur place, except for Sholozar Basin, which was much more of a this is where proto-drakes and mammoths live place, and it’s always got me thinking that what I’d love to see in WoW is a Savage Land style lost world focused on the Cenozoic. Huge Indricotheres and Hyenaedon and Andrewsarchus everywhere, weird creatures like Chalicotheres (I love those guys, they’re like horses and gorillas at once) – and yes, I’d love an Andrewsarchus mount in WoW.

See, it’s not always dinosaurs. I love me all sorts of prehistoric critters. Bring on Cenozoic Plateau in patch 6.2!

NIDOCIDE ASKED:

My first ever Q4tQ: As a sub-50 Alliance, is there anything in Azeroth I absolutely should not miss before my time runs out? I’ve been running tons of classic dungeons, so I’m good on that front.

Well, if you can and you haven’t already, definitely run the Plaguelands, Swamp of Sorrows, Feralas, the Burning Steppes and the Blasted Lands. The Cataclysm revamp gets a lot of shade thrown its way, but in terms of story flow those zones are very well done and worth your time. Honestly, Cataclysm was the template for both Mists and Warlords in terms of its outdoor quest/story flow, which I think is vastly improved from vanilla days. (As a guy who spent a lot of time back in vanilla trying to finish Order Must Be Restored I feel safe saying this.)

SOPHDOG ASKED:

Q4TQ: Are Elemental Runes more likely to drop from work orders if a follower is assigned to the building? I pretty much don’t assign followers any more, except to get the JC daily, and it seems that the runes drop regardless of assignments or non-assignments.

I only ask because 900 runes seem like they will take ages to acquire, and the majority seem to come from follower missions and work orders. I’d like to optimise the drop rate – if that’s possible.

As far as I’m aware, no, the follower bonus doesn’t affect these in any way.

PEPE BRIGHTWING ASKED:

Q4tQ: Thoughts on Healer damage? It is supposed to be increased in 6.1. But as a Shaman in 673 ilvl gear, I spent about 80% of a Heroic Kargath fight doing nothing but damage and ended the fight just under 5k DPS. This seems extremely low for the amount of time spent DPS’ing and for my ilvl.

Do you think the increase to healer’s damage numbers will make it worth it for healers to pop some casts at the boss during healing downtimes? Has anyone tested it in the PTR and able to comment?

Considering that you’re probably geared for Heroic Highmaul if you’re killing Heroic Kargath, I agree, that’s pretty low. I don’t know how low healer DPS should be — I almost never heal on my shaman nowadays and I haven’t even leveled him yet — but I’d agree that given the circumstances it should be higher than that. Hopefully the 6.1 changes are to your liking.

I mostly chose to answer this to signal boost it for you folks in the comments who play healers.

JPEC07 ASKED:

So I was thinking, what has Blizzard gotten pretty much perfect with this expansion, in your experience and opinion?

Honestly, for me, I would have to say the item squish worked flawlessly. Going from 90 to 100, I didn’t notice it. You can still solo old content (in some cases it’s even easier) and I generally found that it simply wasn’t an issue at all. I’d definitely say the item squish worked out well.

I’d also say that while we could argue all day about flying mounts (I’ll admit, my position on this has softened — I wouldn’t mind having them back now) they did a very good job on making zones navigable without needing them. Except for Gorgrond. So maybe not perfect there.

I mirror other people’s responses, too. New models are generally good, and I like the story of the expansion very much. The quest flow is very good.

BAJIQUAN BEAR ASKED:

Q4tq: I have avoided going through Silverpine Forest and Tirisfal Glade quests completely since giving them a go back in Vanilla (undead models have always just creeped me out), so its been a long time. But I cannot remember if the quests went through the history of the Kingdom of Lordaeron, Alterac and Dalaran from a undead perspective. Do the quests have some merit along those lines, even now? And if so, would you recommend playing through it? Or is it all doom deathly pallor and gloom- as I suspect?

Tirisfal is generally a newbie zone . It doesn’t go much into the history beyond broad strokes, because the aim is to get your newly undead out and about.

Silverpine is formerly Gilneas’ territory — it’s Lord Darius Crowley’s ancestral lands, which he was forced to abandon when Genn Greymane had the Greymane Wall built, cutting off the people of Silverpine. Greymane’s decision was based on where a defensible wall could be located. Building it where he did meant that the majority of Gilneas was safeguarded while trying to enclose Silverpine would have been a far, far larger undertaking.

If you’re interested in the history of Gilneas and its fractured relationship with the former Lordaeron, or if you just like good story quests (I say this as a person who dislikes the Forsaken as a faction) then the undead starting zone and Silverpine are absolutely worth your time. I definitely would recommend them.

Okay, that’s the Queue for this week. Cenozoic Valley. Seriously, it would be awesome. Paraceratherium herds, each animal bigger than several elephants, wandering the land. Nimravids, the huge sabre toothed predators and relatives of (but not the same as) modern felines (also, their relatives the Barbourofelids, closer to modern felines). Basilosaurus, the poorly named (it means King Lizard, which is not very accurate, as this is a mammal) predator whale. I’d love to see these animals in WoW, and they’d fit right in with Azeroth’s sabre toothed lions and other animals.
