The Queue: I’m late!
The Queue is late today, but I have a very good reason — see, I was finishing the first round of payments for the writers at Blizzard Watch, and I entirely blanked that I needed to write this.
Mind elsewhere and all that. Good times. Let’s get down to some Q&A.
So when did we get the ability to mog 2H Maces with Staves and vice versa? I’m guessing we can do the same with 2H Axe/Sword/Polearm as long as it’s a usable weapon for your class.
End of Mists gave us the ability to transmog these items around. It’s a nice little bonus — one that I wish they change more of the rules and just allow a much more open transmog system.
I can dream, right?
Q4TQ: Any chance we may see the return of Drama Mamas or something similar? That column really helped me through a few rough patches
It’s something that’s gaining more traction with us, and we know you all like it. The biggest thing is what’s more important right now in terms of content. Class, news, and columns about the other games are higher on our priority list — those are things that will sustain us long term. Everything else, while certainly nice, isn’t part of the long term growth strategy. We need to get the other stuff kicking first, then turn to things like Drama Moms.
Q4Q: How does [insert tomorrow’s Q writer here] feel about the removal of Justice/Valor? I see so many complaints about how there is nothing to do in endgame. Without the Valor/Justice rewards from Heroic Dungeons, once a player starts getting Raid Finder and above gear, Heroic Dungeons become pointless to run, especially because there are hardly any cosmetic rewards in the way of pets/mounts.
Without Valor/Justice, Honor Points can only be gained by doing PvP, which means for some players who aren’t big on PvP, they don’t have a way to get old transmog gear that are only purchasable with Honor. Current currencies are arguably even more of a grind (Apexis, Garrison Resources), and the gear purchased with them feels less rewarding for the effort.
I’m curious as to what the general feeling is on the removal of Valor/Justice.
I get the distinctive feeling that Blizzard doesn’t really know what they’re doing with the whole dungeons thing. We’ve seen the following happen:
1. A move to badges (aka: item-based currency) in BC and Wrath
2. A move to justice points in Cataclysm and Mists
3. A move back to an item-based currency in Warlords
I don’t really get what the difference is. Who really cares if the reward is an item or a point? It’s still just something that you have to collect a few thousand of to get your gear, and then eventually these things become worthless as you outgear the content entirely. A Badge of Justice is still a badge when called by any other name.
This move away from Justice/Valor points was a major selling point of WoD‘s dungeon system. What has it done? I can’t tell, although I can say that I have no reason to run any dungeons anymore. Most of my alts can be geared and entered directly into LFR. I’ve got the level 3 inn so there’s no need to do the achievement. So what’s left?
The answer is there’s no reason for dungeons or farming. I can’t even get crystals from the farming, so there’s little point in running things. And the crystals, which act as the justice points of WoD, are near pointless now.
Enough complaining though — my solution? Just bring back justice points, make it so there’s a weekly cap again, and let justice get converted into honor — although maybe at a higher rate than before. Easily done, and it’d make the dungeon content relevant.
