Supporting Blizzard Watch: Redesign and going open source
As Alex mentioned in his post, this week we’re going to do a series on what’s going on behind the scenes at Blizzard Watch. We’re such a community-based (and funded!) site that we owe you, our backers, a look inside. And want to know the scoop? We’re getting a new website.
Today we signed a contract with Erica Shoonmaker, a wonderfully talented graphic artist and web designer. Erica will spearhead the design of our new logo and website. Erica has previously worked for LiveFyre (our commenting system) and designed several components for them. While Erica takes over the visual elements of our site, I’ll be handling the coding and server management with assistance from our Monk columnist, Kim Holmes.
To continue our mission of being a website for the community, we’ll be open sourcing nearly everything we do. This means that anyone who wants to use the technology that Blizzard Watch is based upon can do so for free. This also means that anyone who wants to help us become better will be able to do so; our code will live on GitHub and everyone can contribute to it.
With your continued support via Patreon and PayPal, our new website should be live soon™.
