The Queue: Blame Gamescom

Today’s hyper-late edition of The Queue is brought to you by Gamescom insanity causing me to forget I was supposed to write The Queue. Hooray!

CLINT_ ASKED:

Do you think the announcement has anything do to with the current gold price jump of the WoW token?  There are currently none available on US that I can find/buy (10:30pm Central) and the price has risen from about 25k to 29.5k in a matter of hours since the announcement.

It’s hard to say! Given Blizzard doesn’t share how many tokens are bought and sold, anything could be the root cause. It could be players are buying them with gold at a more rapid pace because of the expansion announcement. It could also be that players are not buying them with real money to sell for gold at the same pace because the current expansion is in its slump — and business will pick up again when the next expansion actually launches. As of this very moment, as I write this sentence, the price for WoW Tokens is 26,158. That means the price has dropped by about 3,000g since you left your comment. It might be as simple as a temporary variation with no real meaning behind it.

LAVINDAR ASKED:

Does every platform of Hearthstone amount for a single playerbase? Like if I play on the PC can I be playing against someone on an android phone?

Yes. Every Hearthstone player is in the same pool of players. You can face off against PC players on your phone or tablet and vice-versa.

MOONLUP ASKED:

Listening to the Lorewatch podcast got me thinking: we’ve defeated Kil’jaeden once, and Archimonde twice now. How close, or not close, are we to being able to take on Azshara?

Personally, I don’t feel like any boss in Warcraft is out of reach. Villains are only as powerful as the plot demands. Azshara could have been a level 10 boss. Old Murk-eye could have been a raid boss. How close are we to being able to take on Azshara? As close as the developers want us to be. She could be the end-boss of the next expansion or she could be the end-boss of the entire MMO. It’s hard to quantify those power levels. Ragnaros was one of the first endbosses of a raid in World of Warcraft history at level 60 — does he seem less powerful than Gruul? We fought Gruul at level 70. Does that matter? Not really.

HOTTIEDORF ASKED:

come the next expansion, do you think it will be possible to skip Tanaan and just start leveling in the new zone?  I have a max level shammy that for whatever reason I really don’t like playing, she’s been parked in her garrison for quite a while and I have no intention of taking her into TJ if I don’t have to.  I just want a chance to start fresh with her.

Do you mean the Tanaan Jungle intro stuff for Warlords of Draenor or the full max-level Tanaan Jungle zone? If you mean the big zone, it will most likely be optional. The opening stretch of a new expansion is always tuned quite low so it can accomodate everyone from high-end raiders to fresh-faced characters in quest greens. The Timeless Isle wasn’t mandatory for Warlords, so it’s very unlikely Tanaan will be mandatory for World of Warcraft: Madness of Old Murk-eye.
