Diablo 3 Seasons may be coming to consoles
While PC gamers may be hyped for Season 4, coming to Diablo 3 this week, console gamers remain locked out from the excitement. Why? Because Seasons just don’t exist on Diablo‘s console port. This seems a shame since Seasons are a great reason to jump back in the game and start climbing the levels anew, while getting some unique rewards in the process — but because of the differences in connectivity and the community, Blizzard felt seasons wouldn’t work well on consoles… but they may be reconsidering the stance.
In an interview with IGN, Senior Game Producer Rob Foote explained “The initial feeling was with consoles, because of the way it’s set up, it can’t support leaderboards and the online community isn’t the same – there’s a lot more playing with friends on a couch rather than in a general community.” But Blizzard has received plenty of player feedback on the lack of seasonal play on consoles. “Sometimes Seasons aren’t really about the leaderboard, but having a fresh start, experiencing the game again and feeling like you’re part of a larger community than yourself where the excitement around Diablo is there.”
While Foote stops short of promising Seasons are coming to consoles, he does say that it’s time to re-evaluate the decision — so perhaps console players will be getting seasons, if not immediately, than in the future.
