Breakfast Topic: Your favorite WoW world event

This week marks the 10 year anniversary of the Corrupted Blood bug that infected much of the game. For those that weren’t playing at the time, a new raid boss had been introduced into the game who placed a high-damage debuff on a player that was 100% contagious to nearby players. Some enterprising players realized that their pets retained the debuff outside the encounter and used their minions to spread it quickly in high population areas of the game such as Ironforge. Lower level players were killed almost instantly and the large cities of Azeroth suddenly became ghost towns as players tried to avoid being infected and Blizzard devs frantically restarted the servers to apply fix and after fix to wipe it out.

The incident hit the news attracting the attention of the media as well as epidemiologists and government terrorist task forces as skeletons piled up all around Azeroth. While some players griefed their server by spreading it as quickly as possible, others banded together to offer healing and purging services. This effect on player behavior gave the devs inspiration about future world events that could bring the server population together for short periods of time. In fact, they intentionally created a similar event with a zombie plague to usher in the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. They also ran the Ahn’Qiraj war effort, the Battle for Sun’s Reach, The WoW 10th Anniversary Tarren Mill vs Southshore World PvP event, plus all the pre-expansion launch events. Which unique world event was your most memorable?
