First US trailer for Pride And Prejudice And Zombies released
Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like.
You might be familiar with the Jane Austen classic, Pride and Prejudice, but you might not be as familiar with the 2009 parody novel that has Austen’s name on the cover, as well as the real author of the book, Seth Grahame-Smith. And if you are familiar with the original, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies follows along with the same characters and situations as the Austen classic, only with zombies added into the mix. Needless to say this is one of those books that should probably be on everyone’s reading list, but if you aren’t necessarily a reader, the film adaptation of the book comes out February 5, 2016. Sony Pictures Entertainment released the first US trailer for the film the other day on YouTube. Warning: The trailer is every bit as gory as you’d expect a zombie film to be.
What strikes me as odd is how serious the US trailer seems to be. I mean, we’re talking Pride and Prejudice and Zombies here, it’s not exactly a serious book to begin with. And when you compare it to the UK trailer released earlier this month, there’s … well, there’s a giant difference in the tone between the two.
Needless to say, if I didn’t know I was watching a trailer for the same film, I’d be far more likely to watch the UK film just because it presents things exactly as they are: A film that is likely going to be ridiculously tongue in cheek based on a book that was ridiculously (and beautifully) tongue in cheek, and should probably be viewed as such.
Either way, I’m pleased that such a bizarre novel managed to find its way to the silver screen, even if it went through quite a few bumps and revisions along the way. Now can we get Jane Austen’s Fight Club off the ground?
