The best and worst of Super Bowl 50 movie trailers

Super Bowl 50 may be about football, snacks, or half-time shows for some, but for others, it’s all about the commercials.

Not being a sports guy myself I admit the big draw of Super Bowl is watching the commercials, particularly the trailers for the new movies hitting the theaters soon(ish). My favorite was the Captain America: Civil War trailer. Though only 30 seconds long, it delivered on action, cameos and just a glimpse of Black Panther.

Other stand outs include: Deadpool for going the extra mile to tailor a commercial specifically for Super Bowl which heavily featured Colossus, X-Men: Apocalypse for debuting their version of Olivia Munn as Psylocke, and I was particularly impressed with the animal animation in the full trailer for The Jungle Book. Alice Through The Looking Glass gets a special mention for being a very entertaining trailer for a movie I still have no desire to see.

Trailers that were ho hum for me included Independence Day: Resurgence, Jason Bourne, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. While it’s difficult to convey the movie in 30 seconds, the first trailers I highlighted managed to do a good job of it.
