Bryan Fuller to helm new streaming Star Trek series
Yes, we’re getting a new Star Trek series from the guy who ran Hannibal.
CBS had previously announced a new Star Trek series for their CBS All Access streaming service starting in January 2017 after the pilot airs on CBS TV. Now they unveiled the guiding creative force behind the series will be Bryan Fuller, who got his start in Hollywood writing for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and wrote many episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. More recently he was also the show runner for quirky romantic drama Pushing Daisies and creepy serial killer drama Hannibal.
So now the question is casting. Who will he choose to be the next captain? He has said previously that his dream choice would be Angela Bassett. I would love for him use his Hannibal connection to put Gillian Anderson in the Captain’s chair. Or at least make her a major villain. I’m good with either option, really.
Come January, you won’t need a cable subscription to access the CBS All Access app. You can sign up for a free month and then pay $5.99 a month after that. The subscription also includes a back catalog of all previous Star Trek shows.
