Breakfast Topic: Motivating yourself for that daily grind
Another day, another set of garrison missions, shipyard missions, and other daily (or weekly) tasks for whatever goals I’ve set myself in game. But with Warlords winding down, it can be hard to motivate myself through these hoops every day. Sure, grinding gold is great, but what do I need gold for right now? Sure, I’d love to get a few more factions to exalted and get a little closer to the Beloved title, but the continuation of a long grind isn’t thrilling. Sure, I’d like to collect more mounts, but I’ve already spent years farming rare drops that never seem to drop, so why keep trying?
When the only new Blizzard game content is showing up in the Legion alpha, the Overwatch beta, and Heroes of the Storm, it’s hard to stay hyped for World of Warcraft. Even though I have game goals I’d like to reach before Legion hits, I’m left wondering what the point is. Will it matter if I level another alt to 100 to get yet another garrison? Will I even play that alt when Legion arrives? Am I actually having fun doing this same leveling grind over and over again?
That’s the real crux of the matter. Though there are plenty of things I could still do in World of Warcraft, am I really going to have fun doing them? There’s a whole world of achievements to do and drops to collect, but if I’m not enjoying myself along the way there’s not much point. And so I see my efforts in WoW starting to slip. Some days I forget to log on to check my garrison because I’m busy doing other things — things that seem like more fun to me.
So what about you, dear readers? Are you still gung-ho for Warlords of Draenor? Or has your attention drifted? Do you still pop online every day to build up your pre-Legion warchest?
