Potential upcoming hot spots for Legion roleplay
The Broken Isles may be a very dangerous place to be, but there are still plenty of excellent locations for potential Legion roleplay. Of course, Class Halls are always an option — but if you’re looking to roleplay with friends or guildmates who aren’t a part of your class, that option is off the table. Dalaran has some really appealing options for players, but there’s also some intriguing locations in the lands far, far below as well. Let’s take a look at the Broken Isles so far, and some potentially amazing locations for roleplay once Legion is released.
Val’Sharah
This hangout, once strictly a Druid-only location, happens to have some excellent areas ripe for Legion roleplay. Sure, the Emerald Nightmare is an ever-present threat, but you can easily incorporate that into your roleplay. Despite the Emerald Nightmare looming, the zone is a beautifully green landscape filled with lush and gorgeous scenery.
More importantly, the place is also full of lots of Druid homes scattered throughout the area. Each of these buildings has plenty of tables, chairs, beds, and other assorted furniture, making them pretty perfect temporary homes for players Druid and non-Druid alike. The place with the most homes — outside of the Druid Class Hall, that is — is Lorlathil, although the nearby Den of Dreams also has a fairly cozy inn.
In addition, the zone also includes Bradensbrook, a small Gilnean village tucked beneath the shadow of Black Rook Hold. There’s only a few buildings in Bradensbrook, and the place is full of NPCs, but it’s Gilnean architecture, which we don’t really see out in the world all that often. The village is surrounded by a variety of hostile mobs, however, so roleplayers may want to be careful of how far they stray into the nearby fields.
Highmountain
Highmountain is a really, really big zone — and it features a wide swath of different types of areas, from green mountainsides to beaches to snowy peaks. One of the main hubs of Highmountain is Thunder Totem, a massive hollowed-out totem near the middle of the zone. As a quest hub, the place is stuffed full of Tauren NPCs, but friendly to both Alliance and Horde players — and there’s plenty of open areas for large groups of roleplayers both in the center of the totem, and on the upper decks high above the rest of the zone.
Thunder Totem also features tons of tents and homes tucked around the sides of the main totem — and those places are great gathering spots, or even temporary homes. They aren’t quite as filled with features as the homes in Val’Sharah, but there are seats, rugs, and more importantly, shelter from the world outside. Having a variety of vendors nearby doesn’t exactly hurt the homey feel, either.
There’s one other place of note in Highmountain, hidden away on the eastern cliffs. Prepfoot is a peculiar little village, its Tauren residents seem to be pretty enchanted by their local prophet, who’s coincidentally seen visions of the “future” — a future that already came and went a few expansions ago. Regardless, Prepfoot is a little more out of the way, and has a few different buildings suitable for roleplayers, as well as a small pond for quiet nights of fishing and storytelling.
Dalaran
We went over Dalaran briefly last week, but it’s worth pointing out again — the city is basically overflowing with prime roleplay spots, and I’m really looking forward to seeing the place teeming with life again. Some areas, like the Circle of Wills and the central courtyard, have been cut in half or replaced with Class Halls. But it doesn’t really seem to have made that much of a difference in terms of roleplay hot spots. In fact, the addition of Class Halls has resulted in a couple of entirely new areas ready for roleplayers to move in.
Circle of Wills
One half of the lower portion of the city is now closed off, acting as the Rogue Class Hall. But the other half has been expanded as a result of the lost space — and both ends of the Circle of Wills have some great roleplay spots. There’s a bar and inn on one end of the lower level — complete with tables, chairs, beds, hammocks, vendors, and a bartender — while the other end has a few buildings that are still pretty empty at this point. They may be filled out with furniture and possibly NPCs as we move closer to release, but even so, the place is just begging for roleplayers to stop by.
Keep in mind, however, that the Circle of Wills is now a quasi-PVP zone. Players can ask an NPC to call in the guards, which transforms the area into a PVP free for all. You can trade in Sightless Eye sigils to call the guards back in at a moment’s notice — and you can collect Sightless Eye sigils by killing rares that only appear while the guards are on duty.
Chamber of the Guardian
The central courtyard in Dalaran has been replaced by a tower and a teleport pad that takes players to the Chamber of the Guardian. The interior is vast, lovely, and spread out over a couple of levels, which opens up a lot more roleplaying space. There are two rooms off of the upper level, both currently deserted, that could work as nice gathering rooms or quiet and mostly out of the way areas for roleplay. Again, we’re still in alpha at this point, so it’s likely these rooms will be filled by NPCs at some point — but unless they turn into major quest hubs, these will probably be pretty good spots to catch some roleplay that isn’t smack in the middle of Dalaran.
Beer Garden, Filthy Animal, and more
Here’s a fun fact: At the present moment, the city is no longer divided by faction. This makes sense from a story standpoint, since the Sunreaver vs. Silver Covenant storyline of Wrath finished playing out in Mists of Pandaria. With Khadgar in charge, it may very well be that he proclaimed the entire city a sanctuary for all, given the overwhelming threat that the Burning Legion presents. Or this could simply be part of the alpha experience, and players will be booted to their respective areas once the expansion goes live.
However, if the wide-open nature of Dalaran carries through to Legion‘s release, it means that the entire upper portion of the city is now open to members of either faction. Are you an Alliance player who always wanted to hang out in the Filthy Animal? You can do that. Are you a Horde player that always looked on the Alliance’s beer garden with longing? It’s no longer off-limits to you. This also paves the way for more cross-faction roleplaying, if you’re interested in trying that out.
And if you’d rather not stray to either side, there’s always the good old Legerdemain Lounge, still located on the corner of a busy intersection and now featuring a full on coffee bar. Plenty of tables, a few rooms upstairs, and a charming balcony that overlooks the intersection below. In addition, there are plenty of shops, benches, and hidden corners for whatever plotting and scheming you’d like to get up to.
You’ll notice I haven’t mentioned Stormheim — that’s because the zone doesn’t really feature any big cities or large quest hubs. It doesn’t mean there’s no place to roleplay, it just means that roleplay in that particular zone may be a little more dangerous than elsewhere. Also keep in mind that there are still two major zones — Azsuna and Suramar — that haven’t been opened yet, and they may have a few quiet locations as well. Although the alpha is far from finished, it looks like roleplayers will have plenty of places to tell their stories once Legion goes live.
