The Queue: Behold!

The next time someone asks you why Blizzard doesn’t just do X, and tells you why it should be simple to do X, show them this screenshot. WoW is an intensely complicated game, with code that has been changed and edited and tweaked over the course of twelve years. You can make one change, and end up with that.

This is the Queue. Let’s talk Blizzard.

MERMELMADNESS

What game got you into Blizzard? What was so appealing about that game that you had to try others from the same developer?

Back in 1997 I moved to Washington DC. I lived there for about two years. In that time, I made some friends (I know, in retrospect it seems unusual anyone would want to do that) and I ended up house sitting for one of them for a month after he went on his honeymoon. He had two things – an original PlayStation, and a copy of Diablo for said PlayStation. Interestingly enough, the PlayStation port of Diablo was published by Electronic Arts.

I must have played this every day for the entire time I was there. I may not have slept.

So that’s pretty much my ‘first Blizzard game’ story.

See? It looks even worse when you can see it stretching out.

VALENCEMAGI

” P.s., please don’t make Rossi wade through hundreds of questions about SNES games.”

Why would he?  Ashkandi is answering the Queue tomorrow.

Ashkandi didn’t want to. Her exact words were stab stab slash chop reave rend asunder kill kill split bone and sinew and I took that to mean she just wanted to nap today.

GALDWYNN

Q4tQ: What are you going to play in the next D3 season?

I usually have an idea, but I haven’t made my mind up yet.

I just started playing Diablo 3 again. So I can answer this.

Barbarian.

What? Come on, what else was I going to possibly say to this question? Ashkandi? If it were playable, sure, I’d play an Ashkandi.

VYNASTIN

Lore Q4tQ: In the War of the Ancients, Suramar is left in ruins. Rhonin and Brox battle demons in the rubble and fog, but we’re now shown that it’s very much not in that state… Is this another “under new management” like Neltharian’s Lair, or because reasons?

As many people pointed out, it’s been 10,000 years since the War of the Ancients. Plenty of time to rebuild and even expand the city, especially when it’s been populated by powerful magicians for all that time. Dalaran got destroyed during the Third War and the Kirin Tor took less than a decade to not only rebuild it but also put the thing up in the sky, so I have little difficulty in believing that the ancestors of the Nightborne could use their magic to rebuild any damage to Suramar in the amount of time they had to do it.

Furthermore, it’s possible that Brox and Rhonin didn’t get to see all of Suramar. A large city is, well, a large city — many parts of London were bombed into looking like moonscapes during World War II, and anyone in those areas might well think the city itself utterly destroyed, but it wasn’t.

But really, I think it’s easy enough to say “it’s been 10,000 years” on this one. A lot of time to rebuild and expand Suramar.

Seriously, she can do that I’m not putting fixing a wall past her.

CLOUD OTQ

QFTQ: Illidan originally used the Skull of Gul’Dan for his sorcery and to gain power. Given that Gul’Dan is a raid boss and we presumably kill him, do you think history will repeat itself and Illidan will use the skull from AU Guldan?

If my character is dumb enough to leave Gul’dan with an intact skull after we kill him, we deserve Double Juiced In Badness Illidan.

I still can’t believe my response upon finding Gul’dan trapped and helpless in the Suicide Mission on Draenor wasn’t to hit him with every sharp pointy thing I could find until he was a greasy smear on the floor.

BNDOV3R

So, what are you guys doing these days when you get tired of WoW but still wanna play games? I’m finding myself going through the console games I haven’t played through yet, and reading more stuff as well. I’d probably be working on transmog in WoW, if I still had the bag space on the main, but alas, that’ll have to wait for Legion.

A partial list of games besides WoW that I have played in the past month:

  • Diablo 3
  • Dragon Age Origins
  • Dragon Age 2
  • Dragon Age Inquisition
  • Fallout 4
  • Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning (Seriously this game was actually really good and it’s a shame what happened with 38 Studios, the mismanagement killed a solid potential franchise)
  • Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines

Games I want to play but haven’t gotten around to yet include Pillars of Eternity, Siege of Dragonspear, and I’m looking forward to Torment: Tides of Numenera when it comes out. Also I hit the Legion alpha like once a day, usually for at least an hour.

Okay, that’s the Queue for today. I’ll see y’all next Tuesday. Maybe Ashkandi will be feeling friendlier next week.
