Breakfast Topic: Which Overwatch animated short was the best so far?

With yesterday’s debut of “Hero” we’ve seen the last of the four pre-launch Overwatch animated short films. The first was “Recall” where Winston struggles with reforming the disbanded Overwatch organization followed by “Alive” with Tracer trying to prevent Widowmaker from taking out her next target. Next was “Dragons” that told the story of feuding brothers Genji and Hanzo and finally “Hero“, where we saw Soldier 76 playing Batman in the streets of El Dorado.

By far my favorite was “Dragons”. The anime-style action was great to watch and the heart-wrenching story of the two warring brothers was an emotional gut punch. The Japanese setting was beautiful and the visuals were stunning to look at. Yes, Hanzo only really had one facial expression the whole time (“grrrr”) but overall the short was a well told story of internal and external anguish over choices made that could not be unmade.

On the other end of the spectrum, “Hero” missed the mark for me. Soldier 76 is fairly generic as heroes go and Blizzard couldn’t even find a decent opponent to match him against, just a bunch of street thugs. If they were going to invest their considerable talent and time into making these shorts, they could have picked a more interesting subject. I would have much rather seen a short focused on say Zenyatta to see the Overwatch world from the omnics point of view. Or a more comedic short starring Junkrat and Roadhog bumbling a heist. Or something really different like Lucio having to foil a plot while DJing a concert.

Which Overwatch short did you enjoy the most? The least?
