Breakfast Topic: Do you look at damage meters?
I’ve been testing out various specs in Legion beta, particularly Druid, and when it comes to DPS specs the question often comes down to, is how well does it perform. To answer that we often turn to damage meters, add ons that tell us how much damage we contributed to the fight. But is that the only thing we should be looking at?
The problem with damage meters are they don’t give you the whole picture when comparing damage output of everyone on the team. Are people geared differently? Were the fights mostly against large groups while your spells/abilities largely single target-oriented? Were you spending part of the fight filling in different roles such as off-tanking, back up healing, or crowd controlling?
Another way I like to judge new specs is how do they feel when you play them. Do you feel like you are contributing? That you are doing your job? That you have something to do throughout the fight? That you can help out when the fight goes bad?
Looking at the numbers is a good way to see where you need improvements (gear, rotation, talents, etc.), but at the end of day if all the mobs are dead and you’re alive, you’ve won, right?
Do you run add ons that show fight performance or do you just enjoy how the class plays and don’t worry about topping the charts?
