The Queue: Bears
Bears are cool. Some of my favorite tanks have been bears. I wanted to play a Guardian Druid in the Horde leveling stream but we already have two Druids so I’ll likely play a Paladin instead. Still, bears, am I right?
Bears are cool.
Q4TQ: Are the Draenei vegetarians?
Considering that Tauren aren’t? Probably not. It seems unlikely for a species to have a strong tradition of hunting (aka the Rangari) if they’re fully herbivorous or vegetarian. (As an aside, in real life, herbivores sometimes eat meat. Seriously. Google ‘deer eating bird’ if you don’t believe me.)
Of course, vegetarianism isn’t the same as being an herbivore. One’s by choice, the other’s based on digestive tract and eating habits. Animals in the same families have evolved towards one or the other over the years. Any species that can digest plant matter and is sapient enough to make choices could have vegetarian members, but I doubt the Draenei as a whole are strictly vegetarian.
To remind me, is there anything that I should or shouldn’t horde before 7.2? AP, order resources etc. I think some things are better to spend now and some better to keep but can’t remember!
There was nothing you should have hoarded.
“Consider that Darnassus itself didn’t exist until after the Third War.”
This is one of my lore beefs with Warcraft – they *really* needed to have, like, 30 years pass between Warcraft 3 and the start of WoW. Even with the decade or so that has passed since the start of WoW, an Azeroth without Orcs is still within the living memory of *humans*. Worlds that have this much war and catastrophe happen this fast just crumble to pieces.
Between the years 1900 and 1945 Earth saw two massive global conflicts, an influenza outbreak so massive it killed as many people as the World War that preceded it, the Russian Revolution, the Russo-Japanese War, the Tunguska Blast, the sinking of the Titanic, the development of heavier than air flight, atomic weapons, rockets capable of ballistic flight…
I’m leaving out a lot, too. I didn’t even mention the various conflicts like the Spanish Civil War, the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, or the Japanese in Manchuria that led to World War II but preceded it.
Likewise, just look at American history in the 19th century. We had a war with Great Britain, Mexico, each other and Spain, and I’m leaving out a host of wars against pirates, native tribes, China (yes, we went to war with China in the 1800’s) and others.
I could do this for pretty much every human society in recorded history. War has been unbelievably common in our past. The past decades have been some of the most peaceful in human history.
My point is, our world actually has had that much war and catastrophe happen to it, and it didn’t crumble.
So fun Q4tQ in honor of patch 7.2: What would happen if Varian didn’t get stabbed in the back by the Felgaurd. Would he have killed Gul’dan, been killed anyway, realised he was out numbered by infinity and found a nice hidey-hole until we show up again? How do you see things going if the assult on the broken shore played out differently?
The pragmatist in me says “If that demon hadn’t gotten him, one of the other sixty billion demons the Legion had on the shore would have done it — he was simply outnumbered and had already blown all of his cooldowns soloing that Fel Reaver. No way he lived.”
The part of me that wishes Varian wasn’t dead says he would have ripped Gul’dan’s head off and paraded it around Stormwind.
A less talked about discussion:
Tanks in Legion seem to never get dismounted, even when running through packs of mobs. My mage, on the other hand, seems to always get dismounted if more than three mobs are attacking her.
Does this seem fair to you?
It seems to a little unfair to me that the one role that could actually handle getting dismounted by an angry mob of monsters is the one that never does.
Yes, it seems fair to me.
There’s a whole host of reasons I’m okay with this — tanks do much less damage and some tanking classes would literally never get anywhere if they had to deal with mobs constantly dismounting them, for example, while DPS classes can often either burn their attackers down fast or have a trap/root/escape option most tanks don’t have — but in the end, I really just don’t mind if tanks can avoid being dazed.
Mind you, I quest as Arms or Fury, so I usually can get dazed, and I often do. And I’m fine with it. I can kill stuff a lot faster than a tank. Tanking is so often such a thankless task, I’m cool with their being a couple of perks to the job compared to DPS.
Now, healers? They shouldn’t get dismounted either.
Okay, that’s the Queue for today. I’ll see you guys Friday. Liz is up tomorrow (along with her Boswell, Mitch) so be sure to ask a lot of questions.
