The Queue: Apparently I don’t feel cold

Playing my Hunter last night and I was immediately struck by the idea that the ‘armor’ I was wearing would do very little to protect me against the elements. Or anything, really.

KELEOS

What are your thoughts on the AP grind? Do you think it takes too long? Do you think 40 Artifact Knowledge is enough or should they have left the cap at 50?

I’m personally behind on AP because I took some time off after 7.2 launched. While I’ve mostly caught up in terms of gear, Artifact Power and Artifact Knowledge are the real indicators that I’m behind everyone one — My AK is 35 (should be 36 today) and my Strom’kar seems stuck half-way on 49, with even millions of AP per item not being enough to get it to tick over to 50 so I can start working on Concordance.

I don’t like this feeling, but a design isn’t bad just because I don’t like how it feels. As for the AK cap, it’s gotta cap somewhere, and if people can successfully get to full AP on their Artifacts with 40, then you really don’t need 50. That said, right about now I wish I had 50 just to make this pitiless grind go faster. When you find yourself unhappy that your Fate roll didn’t give you AP items, you know something is off.

I haven’t even bothered with my Fury or Prot artifacts yet, because every point of AP I scrounge up goes into Arms. It feels like going offspec would be a big setback.

LADYRHEES

What Warcraft story line part(s) do you dislike, and how would you write it/them differently?

I don’t know if this is an answerable question, because if I were in charge of WoW‘s story I’d write much of it differently because I’m a different writer and I have different tastes and interests. Not to hype my work, but if you’ve read my books you know I have certain tropes and motifs, as does anyone who writes — I’d inherently tell different stories than another writer because I’m a different person.

I’ll focus on one big thing I dislike in Legion, and that’s the death of Vol’jin. Vol’jin was made Warchief at the end of Mists of Pandaria and immediately the story focus shifted away from him and onto another world where he had minimal involvement. I know he showed up to get you to build a shipyard but other than that, he just wasn’t around much. And then in Legion he dies on the Broken Shore.

I feel like tragic deaths happen all the time but killing Vol’jin like that felt a little too pointless. It’s true that death can hit anyone at any time especially when an innumerable army of demons is invading, but we never really got to see what kind of Warchief Vol’jin was. I’d have let him survive the Broken Shore. Badly wounded, unable to continue as Warchief, but alive and with the possibility of returning one day, perhaps in a different capacity.

I realize that many would have viewed this as the Alliance losing Varian and the Horde losing nothing, so I would have killed Thrall instead. That way, him losing the Doomhammer is even more sensible and we’d know that our big green Orc savior wasn’t going to save the day this time.

Also, I would never have made Malfurion co-leader of the Night Elves. He had a job.

HUSSKIES

Aaah good old tier 6 priest set. I keep collecting new mog appearances but can never convince myself to mog to anything but tier 6. It’s just the most beautiful thing in the game and the balance of power artifact appearance (the blueish variation for Holy) goes with tier 6 like it was meant for it.

Edit: But the black remodel of tier 6 from mythic ToS might just be even better.

I’m glad for you cloth types that you like your… whatever that stuff is… but one of the reasons I could never get into cloth classes is that I fairly strongly hate almost all of their transmogs. Priest Tier 6 in particular with the weeping blindfolded faces on the shoulders does nothing for me at all. I know a lot of people love Absolution as a set — I’ve seen them use the mog — but this is a case of me just not getting it.

I can get behind individual leather and mail sets — Rogues have Tier and Tier 5, Hunters have Tier 5, I’ve liked quite a few Shaman sets — but I’ve never seen a cloth set that made me not deeply regret even considering playing a caster.

I guess this is your opportunity to show me various cloth sets and say “Look, this is awesome, you’re totally wrong” so have at it.

ERIK SETZER

So… a funny thing happened with this week’s Broken Shore quest.

I logged in Tuesday night to do it. Got the quest, immediately saw the Murloc rare elite up. Hopped down there, another player was in there, we killed him, cool, 1/3.

Then I went over to do the quest where you chuck spears at felbats and collect supplies. I finished it up and opened the map to look for the next world quest to hit. I spotted a question mark back at Deliverance Point, so I figured maybe it was another goodie crate, but when I moused over it, it had the name of the weekly quest. Sure enough, my quest tracker on the side of my screen showed the quest done, and I was able to turn it in.

There were no rare elites in the area I did the quest. Not even regular elites that I noticed. But somehow I got credit for two more kills.

Just kind of weird. But eh… meant I could just log back off and go back to just occasionally checking in on my character.

Yes, this seems to happen a lot — both my main Warrior and my DK had this happen while doing the quest. My wife and I were just finished with killing our second rare, decided to stop and do the WQ where you ride around on a water elemental and the quest autocompleted. We still killed the other rare elites that were up because why not, but it was definitely weird. My DK actually finished the quest while killing the Imp Mother rare, in this case I killed her twice and those two kills were the only elites she killed but the quest completed anyway.

PEPE STORMSTOUT

Obscure and pointless Q4tQ: Who is your favorite named orcish wolf mount/companion? Thrall’s Snowsong? Garrosh’s Malak? Ner’zhul’s Skychaser? Durotan’s Nightstalker? Geyah’s Stormfang? Drek’Thar’s Wise-ear, Drakan or Duros? Lokra’s Asha? Rexxar’s Haratha? Etc..
It can be either the main, WoD or film universe version in cases where there are several versions of a wolf.

Duros and Drakan, Drek’Thar’s companions and guardians. Wreckers of many an Alterac Valley for the Alliance. I still call her Draka, because that’s what her name was before 2.0 when I was playing a lot of AV.

Alternatively my Hunter’s wolves are all pretty awesome, especially her Worg Geryon. But she’s a Night Elf.

RENAYA

Q4daQ (or Quevians)My friend and I have a pair of characters that we have only played together, all the way to level cap, WQs, Broken shore, etc. Occasionally, this becomes frustrating when we do not have the same WQs on the broken shore. Has anyone else experienced this? I’m a BM Monk, She’s a Frost Mage.

There’s a specific time I remember this happening when my wife and I were playing together on the Broken Shore. She got a quest to kill 15 Felskorm Vrykul, and I got a quest from Odyn to kill 20 of them, and he specifically addressed me as Battlelord but didn’t talk to her at all. I think I also got a different quest than her when we were killing Naga, she got a number of Naga to kill and I got a bar to fill up. In both cases it seemed like the difference was class specific — I got Warrior specific quests from Odyn while she got standard WQ’s.

Not sure what’s up with that but I did notice it.

Okay. that’s the Queue for today. I’ll see you guys next week.
