Heroes of the Storm releases unofficial soundtrack for its Warriors
Last week, Heroes of the Storm made its official soundtrack available for streaming. This week, Heroes of the Storm has taken us into the realm of unofficial. In a new series of blog posts, they’ve begun listing their choice in theme song for all of their characters, starting with the Warrior role. Their unofficial tracklist includes:
Anub’arak
Subterranean Homesick Blues by Bob Dylan
Artanis
King Without A Crown by Matisyahu
Arthas
Blue Veins by The Raconteurs
Chen
Chug-A-Lug by Roger Miller
Cho’gall
Just The Two of Us by Bill Withers, performed by Grover Washington Jr.
D.Va
I’m The Best by 2NE1
Dehaka
I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor
Diablo
The Devil Ain’t Lazy by Bob Wills
E.T.C.
Party Hard by Andrew W.K.
Johanna
Blinded By The Light by Manfred Mann’s Earth Band
Leoric
Clap Hands by Tom Waits
Muradin
Thunderstruck by AC/DC
Rexxar
Leaning On A Bear by Purson
Sonya
Raise Your Horns by Amon Amarth
Stitches
Hooked on a Feeling by Blue Swede
Tyrael
Send Me An Angel by Real Life
Varian
One Shot at Glory by Judas Priest
Zarya
Gonna Fly Now (Rocky Theme from “Rocky”) by Bill Conti
I admit, I may be taking this sort of thing far too seriously. While some of these choices are truly inspired, others are a serious stretch — or lean too hard into a joke. These are theme songs! Their job is to embody the essence of a character. They not only need to be on-topic, but thematic. Just because Leaning on a Bear has “bear” on the title doesn’t make it a Rexxar song. And Johanna is way too hard-as-nails for Blinded by the Light to do anything for me. Leaning into joke territory certainly does work for characters with sillier characterization, however. Stitches and Cho’gall work just fine with their choices.
While I do quite enjoy Matisyahu’s King Without a Crown, it’s perhaps presumptuous to use a strongly spiritual track as Artanis’s theme. High five to the Heroes team for Sonya’s viking metal, though. And if they didn’t choose K-Pop for D.Va, I might have slightly lost my mind. As for Claps Hands for Leoric… well, it’s a good song, so I’ll allow it. They seem to be accepting suggestions for the game’s other roles, so through the power of crowdsourcing, maybe we’ll end up with an actually awesome soundtrack as opposed to a string of eh, it kinda works.
