Do you enjoy collector’s editions?
One of my favorite things about having all the WoW Collector’s Editions as well as the Collector’s Editions for Diablo 3 and Reaper of Souls is that they come with art books. Because frankly, art books are just all kinds of awesome. I’m thrilled every time I get to look at one. If anything, my biggest regret is that they aren’t longer. But art books aren’t the only thing you get when you buy a physical copy of a collector’s edition. While some goodies are in-game items like special mounts, battle pets or other swag, some are behind the scenes videos or soundtracks.
I never got the original World of Warcraft collector’s edition and it’s something I always regret. A year or so ago a very nice person — a reader of this site, in fact — contacted me and is the reason that I have so many collector’s editions now. I like being able to put them on the bookshelves. The boxes are big and solid, even if they can be a bit much to find shelf space for. I like watching videos where the people who made the games talk about them. Blizzard excels at having excited, passionate people working on their games.
I’ve of course seen people go crazy trying to get the special pets and suchlike. But if that’s all you want, you can get it from a digital deluxe edition nowadays. I prefer the tactile sensation of touching the game and all the goodies that come inside. How about you? Which do you prefer? Do you have any collector’s editions? What makes a collector’s edition worth the purchase to you?
