Official Overwatch League companion app launches
Overwatch League commissioner Nate Nanzer unveiled plans for a companion app way back at BlizzCon. The app he showed us had ways to follow your favorite team in real time, check scores, and keep up with all the action. Now that dream has become a reality, as the official Overwatch League companion app is available for iOS and Android.
When you first open the app, you’re prompted to put in your Blizzard log-in info. From there, you’re given the option to decide whether you want to see spoilers or not — a great touch for people downloading the app mid-season. After that, you’re free to explore supplemental videos, scores, and some other data straight from the official source.
A big bonus of this app is, you can choose the teams you want to follow and get a full list of upcoming games tailored to that schedule. Be wary of how many you select, though — your app will automatically set up push notifications for each game your teams are competing in. Honestly, seeing all the games they’ll be playing this season in one chunk with just the games for the Valiant penciled in on my app seems like a lot to take in — but then I remember what a mess the official MLB app was with just Cubs games. Still, if you live in Boston but your heart belongs to Texas, for example, you may find things a bit overwhelming to start.
According to the BlizzCon presentation, we can also expect to watch games live from our mobile devices with this app too, but that still remains to be seen. The action starts Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. CST, so we’ll see what new stuff we can access from this slick new app when the season starts.
